Johansson used to get a few points back when the Caps had no alternative but to play him in a top six role every night. He's 29. Staal is 35.

Laugh it up, but I'm not sure that wasn't a win-win deal. And with Staal's insistence on playing where he can be guaranteed a top-six center role, I'm not sure there were other options, if Minnesota wanted to get younger.
