Trades
NYR
  1. DeBrusk, Jake [RFA Rights]
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Bruins get a scoring winger that they are looking for. Improvement from DeBrusk in that same spot. Kreider's no move has yet to kick in, and maybe he would be open to playing in his home at BOS which would make the Rangers not look bad for moving the guy to a place he would be willing to still play for.
BOS
  1. Kreider, Chris
Additional Details:
Rangers clear the big ticket which quickly became a questionable signing with Lafreniere on the way. Creates a bit less of a logjam at LW for the future and creates some flexibility. Would probably have to add more on the Boston side

I like Kreider but I would take this if I was NYR. Hard to imagine having one of him or Laf on the third line this year especially with Kreids lined up for a pretty sizable contract.

Can't see the Bruins doing this. I doubt Sweeney would have signed Kreider to his current deal.

I think more might need to be added somewhere, but the premise is Rangers give up the better player but acquire one that is more suited for a 3rd line role for the time being. If Laf struggles DeBrusk can certainly play up. I think the biggest challenge is that Kreider took discount to stay, and so it might be tough to move him on a personal level

It’s certainly easier to see DeBrusk at 3LW than Kreider or Lafreniere. He’s also probably easier to move in general if NYR wants to trade him on (for a LD?). Boston’s window is pretty short so they might do it for the immediate upgrade, future is pretty barren outside Pasta/McAvoy though

Sweeney would have to be very misguided to take this trade.

The Rangers gave Kreider UFA money and then they gave him the NMC. I wouldn't take Kreider for free at this point.

Figured since the Bruins are looking for wingers this offseason they might consider an upgrade. The contract definitely looks tough with the flat cap

DeBrusk scored 62 goals in the last 3 years. Kreider 68 goals. Not sure I see the huge 'scoring upgrade' the people are talking about. Especially for an extra 3mil a year...

The contract might be an issue. And preferable to keep the pick to try to get an RW2 with. If DeBrusk is moved, Bruins need a better LW2 than him (it is likely be free agency) and then, he would be probably be moved for a top4 LHD.

So 23 year old 3.5m Debrusk with less big minutes scored 5 less goals and 10 less points than 29 year old 6.75 Kreider. Bruins easily decline.

Due to age and contract you would assume that NYR would be the one adding not Bos. Kreider does fit the Bos identity and it is plausible they go all in with the older core. I think there is something to be had here potentially but it could use some tweaking. If this were to get done you would need to take out the 2nd and find the piece that really has it make sense for Bos.

The biggest issue to this deal would be Bos's opportunity cost comparing it to alternative routes. Like if they were able to sign a guy like Hoffman for cheaper and trade Debrusk to help on the Defense it would be hard to look at this as the best option

For sure. Except for coyle and Carlo and debrusk and studnicka, and Vaakainanen, and grzelcyk.

I guess a hart caliber winger and a Norris caliber d man isn’t the worst place to start.

Kreider’s value is really hard to judge I guess. From my perspective, he seems like the type of player that will age poorly. He has a big contract, and an NMC, and we’re in a flat cap world for the foreseeable future.

I think if you take out debrusk, it becomes something to consider.

Be my guest. More about getting rid of Kreiders money than acquiring debrusk

What? Debrusk is kind of an important player man. Why not just throw pasta in there if that’s the line?

Im saying mainly that the Rangers should consider ways to part with Kreiders contract before the no trade kicks in.
If Bruins don't want to get rid of Debrusk but would still want to add Kreider, there still could be a deal there. The return has to be adjusted in that case though. A second rounder alone doest do it.
Well take Pasta seems like a good deal

Then you’re missing the point. You aren’t getting good value for kreider in my opinion. I think a 2nd rounder is about what the offers would be.
