Description
Based on Staple's chat today. I think the Parise deal is realistic based on the terms of what they were negotiating last year. They'd probably prefer to pay Ladd to sit on LTIR for 3 years instead of paying a healthy Parise for another 5, and $6m is somewhat reasonable for a guy who can still contribute. Boychuk deal kinda sucks but adding Holmstrom and getting back a 2nd makes it a little easier to swallow. RFA deals are what Staple listed after he spoke with execs around the league.

I’d pass from Detroit, as I don’t believe you’d be getting back a second rounder in value. I like Holmstrom and say at best you’re looking at getting FC when attaching Boychuk’s contract.

Boychuk is a 36 year old RD cap dump we don't need RD and a player making 2 x $6,000,000 take more then Holmstrom to move him. And we're not giving up a late 2nd either you'd be lucky to get a 6th for him.

It's boychuck + one of bellows or Wilde + 2021 first for erne/perlini types to take back boychuck. This is how we are going to use our cap space as a weapon

Not crazy high on Simon Holmstrom. If you swapped him out with Bode Wilde I'd make that deal.

I guess I still don't like it for the Wild but it might fit what Guerin is trying to do with the Wild, as far as changing up the clubhouse feel. The hold up on this deal would probably be Guerin trying to get a better return then Aho.

The kid might be worth the 2nd but boychuk taped to him blows that up

I heard the retention was an issue as well (assuming Lou wanted more retention on Parise) . Guerin wanted 2020 1st used in pageau trade, I doubt isles give up 2021 unless guerin retains almost half of Parise contract

Are you high on salo? I feel like some think he’ll be a solid #3 and others think he’ll bust . No in between

Arthur staple said that the 3 RFA contracts were his own predictions, nothing to do with league execs

1/2 would be ridiculous especially when considering the possibility of a recapture penalty. I won't pretend to understand everything about recapture penalties and retained salary but it sounds dangerous and confusing. I had heard originally wanted Wild to retain 2.5 million and Guerin was at 1.5 so I guess that's probably still in the argument.

Holmstrom would be the equivalent to a late first (in 20s) as he was drafted like 23-25OVR last year and didn’t regress.

Yeah a little just about every scouting report/prospect ranking I've read regardless of how high or low they have/had him ranked they all really like him.

I don't dislike Holmström but he is a winger and if Detroit trades a 2nd it should be for a defenseman or a center.

I know Scott Wheeler from the athletic is pretty high on him the last time I checked. I don’t think most isles fans know who salo is 😂

Isles have hit on a lot of their D prospects, I’d like to see a forward like iskhakov/holmstrom exceed expectations

Robin Salo? The org has pretty much written him off from what I've read. Happy to make that switch but would question DET in that situation.

Would probably do that tbh. Only added Holmstrom bc the org is pretty deep on RW. Although Staple also insinuated he wouldn't be shocked to see Bailey dealt, so..

Yeah and now will the flat cap it makes things more difficult. Isles couldn’t do this trade as constructed because they would possibly have to trade their best winger next season (beauvillier). Need minimum 2.5 retained.

I agree unless Barzal takes a MacKinnon type deal. It's going to be tough to make the Parise deal work but I think there is a will from both sides to get it done. I think it doesn't happen until Islanders get solid numbers on their RFAs.
