Description
Just for fun, I wanted to see what a Lindros-type trade would look like if you swapped Lindros for Lafreniere. Obviously this trade won't happen (GM's learn from their mistakes) but I was bored, okay?

I tried my best to match up the values of the players today to the players in the original trade.

Cole Caufield - Peter Forsberg
Their playing styles are different, but Caufield is the around age Forsberg was and has a similar ceiling.

Max Domi-Mike Ricci
Similar point totals throughout their careers, and they're both centres. Ricci was younger at the time of the trade, but not everything can be exact.

Ryan Poehling-Chris Simon
Simon was a depth guy who put up crazy penalty minutes. Poehling is a depth guy who has the size to put up crazy penalty minutes. Both have played LW.

Kerry Huffman-Brett Kulak
Depth D who found himself in the AHL sometimes. Sounds like Kulak (this year's playoffs notwithstanding). Both were around the same age at the time of the trade, and don't put up crazy points.

Steve Duchesne-Jeff Petry
Both are good offensive defensemen. Duchesne put up more points but in the 80's. Duchesne was one of the older guys in this trade so it makes sense to match him with Petry.

Ron Hextall-Jake Allen
Hextall might be closer to Price but Hextall wasn't making 10 mill. Hextall only played in 45 games in 1991-92, which indicates that the Flyers were comfortable enough with their goalie situation to trade him. That isn't the case with the Habs and Price, so I put in Allen.

the '93 and '94 picks were a year and two years away, respectively. They correspond with the 2021 and 2022 picks.

Cash is still cash.

This trade in its modern form is still a massive overpayment, and really shows me how much of a steal this was for the Avs.

Too bad he isn't valued as high as Lindros was coming into the draft. You can tell your expectations are crazy when you make it to the hall of fame and people say you underachieved.

I like unrealistic trades based on real trades value.

Fantasy well done.

If I'm Montreal, I say yes in a heartbeat.

This is a question for Montreal fans, is kulak good. He’s always in trade proposals, but never as a main piece. What’s his value? A forth?

He’s worth at least a 2nd if you look at the trade market for defensemen. He’s a pretty good #4-5D, but for whatever reason he and Petry make each other much, much better when they play together. In 21-22 we won’t necessarily need him, but I’d probably still rather keep him than trade him away for a pick or two.

Edit: He’s probably worth a 2nd + a 3rd, considering Greene and Scandella got a 2nd as rentals, and Dillon as a rental fetched a 2nd + a 3rd.

Petry, Domi, Allen and Kulak will all play on the team... so 2 def, 1 att, goalie already on the team,1 promising goal scorer, 1 top 9 rookie and two first for Laffy (1 att)... its too much MB will never do that
