Leafs want a big move

Created by: jnowariak
Team: 2020-21 Minnesota Wild
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 26, 2020
Published: Sep. 28, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is tough and lots of things need to fall in place for this. In order for the Leafs to be able to make this work, they need to clear at least 2 mil more in cap which could be done but won’t be easy. And that’s if they think Dumba is a fit, which I’m not convinced he is. The second thing is Kerfoot, I think his MO is a good fit for the Wild and projects to be serviceable as a 40 point guy in a top 6 role. But the Wild have too many mid tier forwards and I still see them making a move for Domi/Danault/Strome in this case. If Rask is moved, this would make a lot more sense but I like it all the same. We get a serviceable mid six center, a mid 1st and a D man that can play 3rd pair minutes now and grow into a role and compete with Addison.

That’s more than I’d want to pay for Dumba, but that’s probably close to what it will cost

For Toronto. Dumba is an overpriced 2nd pair defenceman

Is Liljegren expansion draft exempt. If he is I'm interested if not its a no for me. Very interested in your Vegas trade.

He is and I really think he would compete for 3rd line duty opening night and fill in next year on the second pair if Soucy gets picked. I'm pushing the Vegas deal hard. Fleury wants to be a number 1 and he would be a great mentor, not to mention the Guerin connection. We get a prospect since we clear the whole amount of cap.

He isn't. Next season is his fourth professional season.

This is the type of return we should expect from Dumba, a pick that starts with 1X and a good prospect. This deal might return a tad more since Kerfoot is a dump for Toronto, but I like him.

If this is the return, we keep Dumba. Why the hell would we trade him if we're just going to get another RD back?

You need 70 games over 2 seasons, he's exempt.

Because this right D is 20 years old and we really have no depth beyond Addison. I assume Menell will move at the deadline or in the offseason.

Leafs don't want Dumba. Not the style of defenceman they need right now.

Probably not, just looking at what Minnesota should expect if Dubas wants another big D in the organization.

I have no idea where you got this information, but the rule is that teams need to expose at least one defensemen who has played 40 games in 2020-21 or 70 combined between 2019-20 and 2020-21.
The rule is not that anyone with less than 70 games played is exempt.

The rule regarding exemption is two or less professional seasons. Liljegren has four.

He is not exempt.

We don't need depth, we need scoring forwards, not defensemen that can't play defense.

For the right D I would 100% part with that package

He still has 2 years left on his ELC....

He may have played 4 years of professional, but contractually he's a rook.

I think its a reasonable package, a first and a good prospect. Seems like a reasonable package for an established top 4 d man or top 6 forward, unless you're Rutherford and you really want the 3rd liner you drafted years ago...

As a hardcore Leafs fan, there's no way I'm trading Kerfoot, Liljegren and this year's 1st round pick in exchange for Dumba. For starters, we would have to move Andreas Johnsson along with Kerfoot to afford Dumba's $6m cap hit. Secondly, we need a more defensive guy than what Dumba provides... and the only year where hsi dZS% was higher than his oZS%, he was awful with a 46.9% Corsi. No thanks!

Yeah, its challenging for all of those reasons like I stated. The Wild don't need Kerfoot, but he would have to be part of the package to clear the cap.

So who is the target in your Dumba trade? Liljegren and the 15th overall pick this year?

Yeah, I think that's fair value if Toronto was interested. The deals that the Wild made earlier make Kerfoot redundant but I'm cognizant of the cap so I made sure to put Kerfoot/Johnsson in the deal to make it more palatable in that sense. I'm saying this with the belief that Kerfoot would make the Wild better, but it jams up our forward group.
