    You will be kicking yourself in the ass 10 games into the season looking at that contract when he regresses to mean Strome numbers because he’s not playing with elite talent...

    yeah I agree here.
    The have an internal cap on 3C anyway so you won't see 5 million here

    trading him would require someone to actually want him. And if they aren't even certain if they want to qualify him, let alone give him a 1yr around 5M contract he would get through arbitration.

    Ryan Strome is pushing for a long-term deal with NYR because it's the only way he can get it. He and his representatives know if he gets non-qualified his negotiation tip for his next team will be that NYR didn't have the money to pay him. He can get a 1-year deal anywhere, so it's not like he'll immediately accept.

    I didn’t mind strome as a 3c in Edmonton setting aside the absolutely pathetic stupid trade that brought him here. Seemed ok but 5x5 isn’t something I’d even consider for a second. 3.5 is the ballpark I’d put him in.
