With retention, I do feel it’s possible, especially since Vegas really needs a 1-2C.

Well, that is what the retention is for. In fact, I’d be willing to retain more if it helps the deal. Plus, taking back Alex Martinez helps as well. Vegas really needs another 1-2C. Toews is perfect for Vegas’ style of play.

better, but just so you know you're only allowed to retain on three guys at once I'm pretty sure

I don't see Montreal trading Primeau right now and especially not for another RW. The package is probably about what it would take but I just don't see Montreal giving up Cayden who they view as the next Price.

I actually like that you brought that up. Is primeau actually gonna be used to his potential with price AND Allen under contracts?

Just fixed that. Which reminds me: how or why the hell did we have to retain on maatta AND Saad?!

Actually yes he is. Primeau has not even played an entire season in the AHL yet. Giving him 2 or 3 years in a starting role vs 2 or 3 years playing 20-25 games a season behind Price will be much better for his development.

Just what the habs need another RW. So lets get rid of all our picks and prospects to add Kane to a group that includes Gallagher, Anderson, Toffoli and Armia on the right. Very smart...

Oh no, I’m not questioning that, I mean more of price being the goalie for the next 6 years. He won’t be a full time nhl goalie for that entire time. Or will he?

For a rebuild I'd love to see them (for the purpose of the theoretical lol I effing hate Chicago colonizer logo hockey club) acquire more exciting young assets

Full retention on the big 3 seems ideal ultimately

Only 3yrs while cap space is useless & boosts returns

Dylan Strome has a career scoring rate similar to Clayton Keller and only has played 50 games total of his 164 beside 88 so it's tough to see hm get 2x2.8

Okay, first off, read the description. Actually discuss and don’t insult. Gimme some logic.

Secondly, please don’t say ALL your prospects. That goes back to logic, cuz there’s none in that statement considering it’s tuch and primeau, not caufield, ylonen, guhle, Romanov, fleury, Brooks, or even poehling. The picks statement, yea, more of the same. You seen how picks the habs have next year? Jesus....

Toffoli and Anderson both can play either wing, pretty well too. Armia is a fourth liner so, yea, no issue there. Gallagher is pretty set on the right, so I get that. Yea there’s definitely room for Kane.

Again, be civil and don’t insult, just discuss and gimme some logic.

Lol, yea, you either love or hate the Blackhawks, no in between 🤣

I definitely agree that the time is now to tank and pool picks and prospects the next two years. Retention is most likely necessary on toews, but considering Kane’s ability is still world class, we should at least push for no retention. It won’t be easy obviously.

As for strome, that contract is actually based off reports that strome is willing to take 2.8-3.0 mil over 2 years. Whether it is actually the number is anyone’s guess.

The way I see it going is like this. Allen plays backup to Price for the 3 years he is signed then Primeau having already accumulated 3 years as a starter gets to split time with an aging Price for a year or two then Price either retires or plays backup for the last year of his contract.

That’s fair. I like that. Primeau’s looking good so far, I hope he ends up succeeding price. Plus, with him, there’s really no rush and that certainly helps.

Okay. Explain it to me. I’m taking back fleury and Martinez to make the net cap loss mine, and get Dugan, glass, a late 1st and 3rd in return for the one thing you guys need right now, a 2C. That was at least my thinking.

What’s your thinking? Why isn’t toews worth that? Isn’t a 2C what you need?

Jonathan "leadership" Toews trade value

- future HOFer (yep)

- 140 points in his last 150 games

- still getting some selke votes

- 3 cups, smythe, selke

- his intangibles are hugely beloved

You should really adjust your tone here (pretty rude too) especially as the trade is effectively JT for Glass/Martinez/Dugan with the 1st for taking on MAF

Of course you think it’s fair. I think Toews is still a damn good player, but he makes too much. Giving up Glass, a top 6 pick. Dugan who scored the most points in the AHL and a first to “get rid” of fleury and Martinez. Both those guys still play good, just like Toews. The franchise would be better served to see what that have in Glass and Krebs.

Toews is no doubt a hall of famer, and no doubt would improve our team for the now. But I still don’t know if Toews is the piece that pushes us over. Maybe at the deadline something could happen, but not before the season.
