It's good to have him playing on the team but how does this amount of salary FIT into their team going forward. VERY TIGHT.

The 5 millions about what everyone expected no surprise there would have been nice to get him cheaper but it is what it is. Like others opinions though the term sucks 2 years is just bad. I don't understand Lou's logic in walking him to free agency.

As far as the Barzal offer sheets go calm down. They can operate at 10% above the cap for the off season.

3.9 (left on the cap) + 8.1 (10% above the cap) = 12 million in cap space for the off season

Ant offer sheet that's not above 12 million will get matched.

How expensive do you think Barzal will be? Say 6-7 years? Any chance he signs a bridge deal for like $6M in order to wait til some of NYI's older guys' contracts expire?

He’d need to be at least at the Aho level of $8.4 million for the Isles not to match. And even then I think it might take a 4 year contract at over $10.9 million for the Isles to let him go.

So they now have $3.9 million to sign Barzal. Not ideal.

Paid full price and walked him to UFA. Has 4 mil left to sign Barzal. GM of the year folks.

They got his Cap lower (6+ if term) by walking him to UFA.

I would have thought they could have gotten it to more like 4ish with this term, but it makes sense. I figured 6x6. I would have said 4x2

Everyone on here hating on Lou, Just shows their pre conceived bias. Lou wins everywhere he goes, but he isn't "progressive and analytical", results don't seem to sway the opinion here. You have to win "their" way, no other thought process is allowed.

My guess is that Lou got the money down and Pulock got the term down. Let some horrible Snow contracts run up and extend him mid 2nd year after *potentially* Barzy, Pelech, Beau and other RFA's are resigned and Seattle has taken their guys leaving a clearer cap space for the future of the franchise.
