I could see a team offering like a 3rd or a 4th. He is not as bad as people say. Or they could just keep him this year and let Seattle select either him or Skjei

Honestly, I don't think there's any reason to trade Gardiner yet. Can't say for sure, I don't watch the Canes much, but there's reason to believe he was one of the unluckiest players in the league last season. Horrible on-ice shooting percentage with solid offensive play driving and defensive numbers. I say you run it back, maybe deploy him a little differently or with a new partner and see how he does. Not worth it to give up a first rounder quite yet.

With the flat cap I doubt anyone is paying for that contract. BEST case scenario they get future considerations for him. It’s j how the hockey world is rn

There's that too. I'm not saying anyone should give anything up for his unluckiness. But I do think he's more valuable than his meager output last season would suggest

If that's the package, heck, Toronto will have him back. Of course, the fanbase would riot... better not. Just seems a bit much, I doubt dumping him would cost that much.

Lmao, maybe a 2nd and a 3rd? Idk I j feel like it would cost a lot, they’ll need all the space they can get for next offseason and teams probably know it

Can't afford it financially. Plus I think Toronto is set on their left side.

It was mostly a joke lol. Unless he's retained 50% and for free, I don't want him back.

Imagine this trade but Brady Skjei... trading a 1st for Brady Skjei to stink on your team, and than trading a 1st for Brady Skjei to stink on not your team.... perfectly balanced...

That’s a good assessment lol.

If we could swap them 1 for 1 though, I’d do it

I’d swap Leddy for a chick-fil-a gift card if we still had *tears up* Toews

I'd be all over the 1st as a Nashville fan. Could probably get it done for less (2nd or 3rd or a decent prospect). The real key is getting a good return for Ekholm and then going 7 3 1 in the expansion draft. Maybe Gardiner gets taken if not oh well. His contract isn't that bad.

It’s not that bad but everyone knows the Canes have to resign Svech and Hamilton next offseason. They have almost no leverage in a Gardiner trade. Combine that w a flat cap and it’ll probably be harder than expected to move his contract

I'm probably never going to get over that trade unless Toews is an absolute bust in Colorado.

And then I'd be even more sad.

Best case scenario for sure.

If we're able to get under the cap this year and actually use those picks to draft with, that trade might not look too bad at all.

I will never think we got fair value for Toews. I mean, he’s worth AT LEAST a 1st imo
