Under the Radar Trade Guesses - Description

Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 12, 2021
Published: Jan. 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Just curious if anyone has any unexpected players that they have a feeling will get traded in the coming season.

Mine's Forsberg. I think Nashville should've taken a page out of the Rangers' book and pulled the chute this past offseason. If they're out of the race come the deadline I think they come to that conclusion as well. Forsberg is a good candidate to be the first to go, imo.

The trade/location itself isn't a prediction, ignore the value, just sent him to the Leafs because lol.

What surprise player do you guys think is on a different team by the next draft?

Leafs shouldn't give that big a package for another skill winger.

Didn't suggest they should.

Counterpoint: NSH shouldn't trade Forsberg for such a paltry return, and then retain half his salary to boot.

Well, thanks for the dickish reply, but if you'd read the description you'd know that the trade/value isn't the point of this at all.

Nashville could sell off Forsberg and Ekholm if they fall apart imo. Head for a retool around that top pair D, Duchene, Johanson (hoping those two bounce back), Fabbro and Arvy

First of all, thank you for a reply that actually relates to the topic of the post lol. I agree with you that NSH could also ship Ekholm away. I think if they don't appear to be headed for the playoffs, it makes sense to trade those two.

My guess is Monahan if the Flames stumble this year. I think a bounce back is far more likely (they improved their depth and goaltending, and Tanev brings defensive stability to the blueline, plus Mangiapane, Dube, and Valimaki are all breakout candidates) but if they miss the dance then I think Monahan is gone. Gaudreau and Monahan have been the offensive drivers for a while now, and with the development of Tkachuk and Lindholm, one of them becomes expendable if the Flames are mediocre, and I think Monahan would be the first choice, as Gaudreau brings more to the table in terms of upside and offensive creativity. Could see them hard pursuing PLD, Barkov, etc.

Another team I think could shake things up is the Sharks. If they lose the 4th playoff spot in the West to the Wild, I would not be surprised to see them deal a big name forward (probably Couture or Hertl, doubt anyone's touching Kane and Labanc/Meier are younger).

oh yea wasn't saying its good for NSH necessarily either. I just think Forsberg doesn't really add much new to the Leafs (again not discrediting forsberg)

Yeah, the Flames kind of seem like they're in a 'last chance with this group' season. I wouldn't be surprised to see major changes there if they fizzle.

Hertl is an interesting one. If he has a bounce back season and they dangle him at the deadline, he's probably the biggest fish on the market. If they retain, they could get a huge return... Get a jumpstart on a rebuild.
