Oilers get Gibson, I stop watching. Completely unfair, you can mask the swiss cheese D with a Gibson

What do you think they would want to add without tipping the deal to far?

The overrated Draisaitl be moved for one of the best goalies in the league? ... these comments should be interesting

Meh, as a Ducks fan I'm not at all triggered...I just don't really see the point in digging two holes to fill another.

Overall value-wise, sure. But given the cap space that'll be open this summer, I'd just assume take a run a RNH or Hall, which would complement the youngsters coming up better than putting a sieve between the pipes, and having f*cking Kris Russell on the roster tears of joy

What does this solve for Edmonton? Upgrade in net but still only have one goalie. Let’s not pretend kosk is garbage he’s a very good solid goalie so does the upgrade without actually solving the problem justify moving Leon and completely destroy the teams ability to score? How many goals have the oilers scored without Leon or mcdavid on the ice? Cut that in half and suddenly it doesn’t matter who is in net if the team can’t produce goals they have no shot at winning games.

Not that I ever think they would trade Leon, but they would absolutely have to get a stud number 1 Dman back. otherwise it would be a huge failure. Think Cale Makar or Chabot or Heiskanen something like that.

I'm shocked how many people think this is a fair deal. Draisaitl is a top 5 center + an elite power forward and sniper. Odds are Gibson becomes a pylon first thing he steps foot in Edmonton anyway. ANA would have to do at LEAST Zegras or Drysdale, a Middle 6 center, Gibson, 2 firsts and a mid-tier prospect

absolutely not overrated he can shoot, he can skate, he can pass, he can play defence, he penalty kills, and he has been dominant in faceoffs.

Lol. You lost me.

1. He can't play defence. He horrendous at it actually.
2. Just because he's on the PK, doesn't mean he "can" kill penalties. There's a reason why the Oilers PK is 25th in the league at only 73% and he's part of that reason.

& side note, a player being "dominant at face offs" lasts longer than 12 games. He's been good so far this season (again only 12 games) but he's traditionally right around 50% at face offs, which is far from dominant.

Draisaitl is a top 5 offensive player, sure. But he's not even a top 20 player like people think he is. He defensive deficiencies cost his team a lot, that's not a top player in the league. Hence why he's overrated.

Leon just got put on the PP unit because Turris has been ****. Leon is also who they put out to kill 5 on 3 PK. 55% in the faceoff dot is dominant.

First of all RNH isn’t going anywhere he’s getting to play with either Mcdavid or Leon all the time and he has a nice powerplay to work with as well. Second there’s no shot hall goes to the ducks there’s rumours that hall actually wants to come back to Edmonton so he can do the same thing as Nuge and play with either Mcdavid or Draisaitl but the oilers just couldn’t take him this year cus of cap space but the oilers have cap space next year. And if he doesn’t go to the oilers he would go to a winning team because he’s tired of playing on losing teams the reason he ended up in Buffalo is because all the good teams have maxed out cap spaces.

Again, the Oilers PK is 73%. Draisaitl is atrocious at defence, go look at literally all his defensive metrics to see that. & again, 12 games doesn't make someone "dominant" at something. He has a career facepff percentage right around 50% which is far from dominant.

Geez, can you not read?

Edmonton has had atrocious personnel like Kyle turris on the pK not Leon. They put Leon in 2 games ago and it has drastically improved.

The biggest issue with this team is the lack of a legit backup. With this trade, you've lost the 2nd best player in the world and you STILL don't have a backup. All you have is a small upgrade at 1G and a D they don't need. That doesn't cover the massive downgrade at 1LW and 2C.

Learnt I read and not pass over everything just to try to validate your point. Draisaitl is terrible defensively. Look at all his defensive analytics. None of them are good.

Draisaitl's faceoff win percentage
2017-18: 56.1%
2018-19: 50.5%
2019-20: 52.1%
2020-21: 57.2%
Average over the past 3+ seasons: 53.05%

Those are fairly consistent numbers ranging from "above average" to "dominant".

Since moving to his own line in 2019, Draisaitl has been dominant offensively and defensively.

Overall scoring
1. Draisaitl: 42, 28-43-71 [1.69 P/GP]
2. Panarin: 41, 16-43-59 [1.44]
3. McDavid: 35, 20-38-58 [1.66]
4. Kane: 42, 19-33-52 [1.24]
5. Nugent-Hopkins: 42, 20-31-51 [1.21]
6. MacKinnon: 40, 15-36-51 [1.28]
7. Connor: 43, 28-22-50 [1.16]
8. all others below 50 points.

Offensively, he's on another planet from everyone else. To say he's "top-5" is vastly underselling him.

There are lots of ways to rate defense, I'll look at 5v5 GA/60, GF% and xGA/60 since he was moved away from McDavid permanently.

Draisaitl: 1.77 GA/60 (70.59 GF%) 2.39 xGA/60
MacKinnon: 1.83 (68.33%) 2.03
Point: 2.01 (68.85%) 2.32
Bergeron: 2.17 (59.52%) 1.73
Barkov: 2.24 (51.28%) 2.31
Couterier: 2.35 (62.22%) 1.97
Matthews: 2.35 (55.00%) 2.30
Crosby: 2.84 (47.73%) 2.51
Tavares: 2.85 (49.12%) 2.30
Pettersson: 3.00 (61.11%) 2.69

He's been among the very best in the league at keeping the puck out of his own net since December 2019. His xGA/60 is in the same range as Matthews, Barkov, Point and Tavares. He's no Bergeron at shutting down opposition chances, but then he doesn't have the same quality of linemates, either.
