Description

Arizona needs draft picks, and Pittsburgh needs a rental defenseman while Pettersson, Dumoulin and Riikola are all on the injured lists.

When Pettersson is ready to come back, Joseph goes to the taxi squad or AHL, leaving room for Riikola or Aston-Reese to return.

When Dumoulin is ready to come back, someone else with a big cap hit will be injured, so there will still be room under the cap.

Maybe this was the wrong year to try to save money on the junkets to the annual Draft Combine and Amateur Draft, because there's a theory that travel won't be involved this time.

Gonna have to say no. Simek is twice the player Matheson is at half the cost.

Pretty idiotic to suggest that we sit our best defenseman so far this season when the others return. Joseph will not leave the lineup regardless of who’s healthy or not. He’s earned his spot.

I mean we all know the Sharks enjoy a bad contract more than most, but really hope they would pass on this deal.

Would be kinda hilarious if Sharks, the team with most atrocious D contracts inquired about Matheson.

Interesting one. Simek is probably worth a low 2nd on his own if not more. He's solid. Matheson is a bad player on a bad contract both term and cap hit wise. But Poulin is also the Pens' best prospect.

So to me Poulin is enough to counter the atrocity that is Mike Matheson, but not enough to also get Simek.

Yeah that's fair. You're right though, Ferraro would definitely pull more than Simek as he's been our best and most reliable defenseman over the last 2 years and is still only 22. It's a very tough one to gauge value-wise but if the Sharks are rebuilding, I'm just not sure there's enough there to justify the deal.

Prospect( a top 60-70 prospect in the NHL) to trade Matheson?? And then take on another LHD?? And add 2 7th round picks??

Add Hertl and the value would be there for Poulin, Matheson, a 2nd round pick for Hertl and Simek. Rikkola is better than Simek. In my opinion, Simek would only be of interest to the Pens to help through this injury bug. But Matheson, ZAR and Rikkola are all practicing. If we went this far without a trade, why would they try and add a LHD now?
