But....they didn't claim him because they wanted to give up a 3rd rd pick for him. Montreal logic....

Different situation. If they claimed him, he would have had to go straight to the roster or the taxi squad, which would have caused complications for the rest of their roster and potentially led to them needing to waive someone in return. Waiting til he cleared waivers gave them the flexibility to send him straight to the AHL squad.

NSH is possible. OTT says no. MIN says no. EDM says yes, Tatar could possibly get more because of the retention.

This is a comical proposal. Wild say absolutely not. Nobody wants Ryan Poehling who has disappeared since 1st year

Wild aren't trading Jordan greenway, whose been a beast, & one of wild young players leading team in points for trash.

So no from the wild

That would of been enough for Greenway this past off-season when his value was at its lowest.

Not now, now it's going to take a massive overpay.

You drive a hard bargain, but if you make it Greenway for Kotkaniemi you have a deal.

Another layer to that was the number of contracts within the organization. Toronto shipped two bodies out to get Galchenyuk so 46/50 but if they had claimed Galchenyuk off waivers they wouldve been a little more pressed at 48/50. At the very least it gave them a little more flexibility for the deadline if needed.

Exactly. There are definitely cases where players become more tradable after clearing waivers, and contract flexibility is a huge reason why some good players go unclaimed.

That said, Paul Byron is pretty close to untradable given the AAV and term for what he brings to the table as a player.

I don't want anything to do with Poehling after Montreal fans' CF trade offers involving him

Make a better offer or trade for someone else please
