The leafs are what they are

Created by: mhockey91
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 14, 2021
Published: Mar. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
So many people called leafs “the team to beat this year” or “the Stanley cup favourite” just a few weeks ago

Now that this team has hit a cold streak I think something is clearly evident with this team. They are a very good team, with some inconsistencies, and have an outside shot at the cup, especially if they peak at the right time.

Anyone calling them a “cup favourite” just a few weeks ago pls pipe down. Could they win a cup? Yes absolutely. Are they a runaway favourite? Absolutely not.

I thought they were maybe the 6th best team in the league last week when they were playing well. People are seriously delusional if they think this team is/was better than Tampa.

It's effort. Poor defensive lapses and goaltending plus the forward core not showing up too often

these last two games are the only ones they actually deserved to lose. i bet you anything the team is just frustrated and begun to lost composure.

maybe the lightened schedule in the next two weeks will help them get back on track.

They deserved to lose the second night in Vancouver too. They’re 3-3 if they had good goaltending. However they don’t have good goaltending so really they don’t deserve much better. Some adversity isn’t too bad but let’s not make excuses for this team.

Matthews should not have been playing till his wrist was fully healed. He literally looks like a shell of his former self and tonight was no exception. Yes he had 3 goals but you can see he is uncomfortable taking certain shots and his one timers were weak tonight. Yes the goalie interference call was the worst call seen next to the Gallagher call but still that game was inexcusable. I will give the 2 hutch goals a slide as Hutch should not have been playing. But the 3rd and 4th goals were poor defensive coverage by us. Freddie should have played from the start as those 2 goals by hutch were soft ones and Freddie would have had those. I didnt even understand why keefe wanted to rest freddie as Leafs are only gonna have 5 more games in 14 days hes gonna get a tonne of rest. Should have been 4/4 and went to OT but meh Skilliter strikes again.

If Dubas decides to make a move NOW is the time as we only got 5 games in 2 weeks and whoever we get has time to come and wont hurt us. Also Simmonds comes back this week so lets see if he helps out

Engvalls goalie interference call was just sad as the puck was in the net 2 seconds before Draccord hit engvall. It was going in regardless of where engvall was. Skilliter (ref) is just proving my point that the North division has the worst refs and by all accounts now none are qualified for playoff games lul.

It's not an excuse, it's a criticism. These guys need to be able to shake off adversity and stick to the game plan - something that's been troubling the team for a long time.

The referees are embarrassing and need accountability. Every team in the league has a story about an atrocious call this season.

literally the north division has not 1 good ref and trust me I checked. Literally one game 3 slashes not called next game those same slashes were called. Make up your mind refs. The NHL is probs going we may need to send the North some proper refs lul. Heck I will take AHL or WHL refs at this point. Heck give me ECHL refs. I will even take NCAA refs and KHL refs.

All canadian fan bases can agree not one knows how to make a call. Skilliter needs to be given a video of what goaltender interference actually looks like as Draccord was not saving that. Puck was in 2 seconds before he got there and hit engvall and yet they claim Engvall could have moved. It was in refs before he got there. Than there were numerous missed calls but meh im used to that by now as its the norm in the north.

I dread playoffs as I see Toronto vs. Boston game 2 where we need the ice to turn red for calls to happen

It is what it is.

A cold streak.

Everybody gets them.

My suggestion is to look at video footage, fix your mistakes in practice based on what you learned from the footage and get ready for the next game.

Simple as that.

There's no point on dwelling on it day after day.

Just move on to the next game, keep a positive attitude and act as if the last embarrassing loss never happened.

Oh, and the Preds decline that Granlund trade frown

Every team is inconsistent/plays poor at some points in the season. Just make the playoffs and go from there. You can't read too much into regular season games. Wins are wins, loses are loses. Doesn't matter who you play against.

I agree, I’m just stating that they aren’t a Tampa powerhouse

I think they could do it tbh. They’re not the favourites, but I still think they could pull it off if they get hot at the right time

I dont trust him once a bad ref always a bad ref. He probs been nicer to us because he knows other refs are just as bad in this division. Heres the funny thing the 6 wins we got he actually did try to screw us over but we overcame the penalties given

Its time for a witch hunt boyz and girlz get your hockey sticks and torches ready

we running this guy out of our division lez go
