COL fans over value all their prospect that Panarin + + won't be enough to get Newhook. Get ready for COL fans to start trashing you.

Avs need Newhook as their future 2C. The timeline works perfectly as he will have Kadri to shelter him for his rookie year then the following year he can take on a bigger role. His 3 year ELC comes at a perfect time for the Avs and it doesnt make sense to move him even if they get fair value back

Well that’s the question is this trade fair value? I understand the reasoning for wanting to keep him, I’m just curious about the actual proposal here.

It’s hard to come up with “fair value” if you’re trading for a player who is a plan of someone’s future. We’d have to overpay for Newhook.

Change Robertson to Schneider and add Morgan Barron

Newhook-level prospects arent moved for quantity, so ill say no. Im not saying that the offer doesnt have some quality pieces, but the upside is clearly way higher with Newhook in this deal

Avs are stacked on the wing and stacked on D. G is a short term need while Francouz is out, and Newhook being NHL ready with 3 years of an ELC is the last thing they should trade. Hes the perfect fit for their roster so its not really reasonable to ask COL to trade him for fair value. Plus he hasnt played an NHL game so its tough to gauge value anyway

Col really doesn't need dmen.

Depends on opinion on Georgiev. I'm sure Ranger fans will tell you he's better than 41st in GAA and 47 th in Sv%. Why tie up money in him when Col can use the money to re-sign Grubauer next year????

No man it’s a civil conversion but if You want it start throwing jabs about over valuing, might want to look in the mirror first

Here's the thing. Colorado doesn't have multiple needs. As such, they aren't going to trade a top prospect for any type of quantity. Additionally, Newhook is the only C in the system with top 6 potential (maybe Foudy but more realistically just Newhook). It will be really tough to get him for anything less than an overpay.

A guy like Barron could be move due to depth at the position. Newhook isn't going anywhere though.

If an Avs fan made the same post for Miller, Fox, Kakko, or Laffy, we'd be having the same conversation, so sit this one out while the adults talk

@HOCKEYBOY448 Your proposal would be akin to us asking for Miller of Fox and offering up Barron, Beaucage, a first, and a second. It doesn't help you at all right now, so why do it? Same case with Newhook. He's not established like Miller or Fox, but he means more or less the same to the team as he's the 2C to be after Kadri's deal expires. That and he could be an ELC pickup in April for us a la Makar in his rookie year.

I gotcha dude. I was honestly curious to see how highly thought of he is because from what I’ve seen, he looks like he’s gonna be great at the NHL level. I think our best might be trading up to draft Kent Johnson this year or get lucky and take Matthew Berniers.

It's basically going to have to be a massive overpay and even then I don't think the Avs entertain it. The problem is basically that the Avs biggest needs are future #2C, #3C and back up G so with a piece like Newhook covering the future #2C, nothing coming back is going to really add up in value to the Avs, not trade value, just because of their needs. Or put it this way, if you were trading for Newhook the Avs would want a future #2C to replace Newhook and if you had that to trade there'd be no reason for either team to make the trade, ergo it doesn't happen.

Only way I could see any possibility of it happening at all would be in some kind of three way situation where there is a team that needs something else more than #2C and NYR sent that something to them, the extra team sends their #2C to COL and NYR gets Newhook, (plus obviously additional pieces involved) but you can play with that idea lol.

IMO here are the guys that straight untouchable, MacKinnon, Makar, Rantanen, Girard, and Byram. Basically untouchable unless there is an insane over pay, Toews, Landeskog and Newhook. The Avs hit the lottery with Byram and Newhook not just because of their talent but because of their contracts. Newhook’s projected development dovetails so perfectly with Kadri’s contract, joining the team next year and taking over the 2C the following year that COL to trade him would have to be getting an almost borderline elite C coming back, because there isn’t anybody in the pipeline that remotely has his upside as a top 6 C.

Not the reasonable ones. Byram and Newhook are elite prospects. Barron and Helleson are top 4 d prospects. Kaut a middle 6 winger, Bowers a bottom 6 C, Annunen a starting goalie then guys with varying upside like Ranta a top 6 winger (who could bust) Foudy a middle 6 forward, Etc... Byram and Newhook aren’t getting trade not only because of their talent but because they are expected to be significant contributors on their ELC.

Nah! We'd all rather trash you for being an a** than jump all over the OP for asking an intelligent question and starting a discussion about hockey.

Totally understandable, but because of how he's looked so far, it'd have to be an overpayment. Especially because of the value in his ELC to a team like ours looking to be at the cap for the next few years. That carries incredible value when you're looking at re-signing Landeskog, Makar, and Grubauer this summer.
