SJ listening on Labanc offers - open discussion

Created by: yikes
Team: 2020-21 San Jose Sharks
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 8, 2021
Published: Apr. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
per Sheng Peng article

Labanc would be moved for the right price - which I would assume would be higher than what Palmieri returned. Ill assume Doug is looking for a prospect of value and a pick - while willing to help a team offload a contract.

      3. 2022 2nd round pick (TBL)
      Additional Details:
This trade is an idea but very mixed for both teams. Brown hasn't really gotten a shot at the NHL but his value has dropped during all this time as he is now 23 and nothing really has happened. Both Ottawa wants a good return for Brown but also SJ could see Brown as little value due to his handling.

Jesper Boqvists definitely has value but he hasn’t been given a role to thrive in yet. I’d think he doesn’t have as much value as he used to maybe getting better additional assets in a deal would happen but I do like him a lot personally. He’s got some real upside.

Boqvist needs a change of scenery.
Plenty of upside, plenty of speed and skill.
Just needs a place where he can get minutes and grow his confidence.

Yeah, where would he stand in value from NJD perspective?

I’d say a first plus Jesper is “fair” but seems high especially if you have faith in Jesper to rebound as I agree he needs to be moved to a new team. On SJS I’d hope he’d replace Balcers spot in our top 6 for example; a role that he could thrive in if he performs.

Answer the question- because I wanna know if it’s even worth the time to try and have a discussion. Because I’m completely willing to have a convo about the value even if we disagree.

I just don’t see what one has to do with the other.

I haven’t wasted any energy thinking about Debrusks trade value because it’s stupid. His value to the bruins is worth more than his value on the market, and the bruins are looking to add.

I think a good Boqvist deal is where is traded for someone in similar situation. Guy who needs restart.

Definitely think Jesper for Logan brown should be discussed by Ottawa and NJD

So Labanc who’s got good point totals this year, and has some great advanced stats on a dog water team (the Sharks); isn’t going to be worth a first? Hes better than Palmieri statistically and he just return a first basically (I know there was more involved in the deal). He’s worth more than a first to the Sharks and on the market Id safely assume a single first would be a gift to other teams and so why would we even consider less than a first? I’d expect if the Sharks said yeah just a first and a random prospect at least 5-10 teams would be speed dialling Wilson to bid or give their offers. If not more.

I think it would be zero. He’s a solid third line player. 2nd and a low end prospect? Sure. I think a first is an outrageous ask for a player of his caliber.

What makes him a third line player? His time versus “elite”caliber players (per dom luszczyszyn) is more then 50% of the league. He’s got good totals and adv stats offensively and he’s playing top line for the Sharks and we kinda suck. Nothing evidently makes him a third liner. If he was Tampa I’d safely say he’d be deployed beside brayden point over his current line mates Palat or Johnson, potentially over Killorn on line 2.

But the fact you say zero makes it sound like there’s literally no point in having a convo.

Don’t care about any of that advanced stat junk.

His play makes him a third liner on any team that’s adding at the deadline. I tend to think how the player plays is more important than the stupid stats

Yes as to why I asked if you watched Sharks game but you didn’t comment on that so I assume you don’t. 1-2 watched game sample sizes a year generally aren’t a good way to judge a player. It’s called using both eyes and stats - not just 1 or the other but hand in hand.

Interesting, but we are long in centers and short on d-men

I’m a degenerate gambler. I bet against the sharks a lot. I’ve seen plenty of them.

Okay so what’s Debrusk worth than - because it’ll have a lot to do with your take on Labancs value.

Because Labanc isn’t a mediocre player and I’ll assume you haven’t watched 90% of Sharks games. I’d be glad to be told I’m wrong but I’ll assume you haven’t as I a Sharks fan barely found it was worth it earlier this year.

Ignore the bcarlo troll man... he hates the Sharks like his life depends on it.

Holy crap...that’s a lot of comments on one post, I couldn’t read them all. I think taking this much term and money, we will need to have Gardiner going the other way. If that isn’t in the deal, it probably doesn’t make much sense. We have a lot of extensions coming up.

          Most
Comments are on the same page about the value suggested/ could be more due to Wilson saying he’s basically looking for a “overpay”.

Anyways - Carolina is the one team paying the most (just cause I think Suzuki is the best asset suggested out of all the trades). I took Reimer cause he’s got no term I’d assume the most Canes would get back for him is a 3rd plus (not reimer hate I like him in this deal). I don’t think Gardiner can go to the Sharks so if they were to ever meet up in this scenario I’d think a third team would have to be involved if Gardiner was moving just cause of his term/ no actual spot for him
to actually play, unless he wants 3rd pair or less time which obviously isn’t what he wants. In terms of value would you think if it was:

          Suzuki
          2nd
          -> SJS

          Labanc
          2021 6th round pick
          -> CAR

Gardiner (is he more expensive to dump than a “3rds” value)
          SJS Prospect
Maybe a Carolina 4th or something; they’d pay less then SJ but help move his contract
          -> 3rd Party

Reimer traded elsewhere for a cap-less return Carolina can use like picks or whatever.

Including a first is legitimate insanity.

          Kapanen who?

          1) I can see the Isles giving up their 2022 1st after trading their 2020 and 2020 1sts already.
          2) Labanc is not worth a 1st.
          3) Labanc doesn't seem like a fit with the Isles. I can't see Trotz liking him. He's never coached a Labanc-like player before, and probably for a reason.
          4) I mean no disrespect to Labanc, I like him fine, but he's a flawed player on an overpaid contract. Seems like the type that plays well on a bad team but can't hang on a good team.

8 month difference in age. A .09 difference in ppg difference with Kapanen playing with Crosby.

What would it take for Dallas to get him?

Idk if Dallas has the pieces. Harley I assume is a non starter obviously. That leaves Oettinger and Dellandrea. Oettinger I also assume is a non starter. After Dellandrea I don't think anyone else fits.

That leaves Dellandrea who I assume can be seen in a few ways as:
          - I personally dont love him but dont think hes bad
          - He doesnt have much more to offer : Bottom 6 prospect
          - He has a lot more to give and patience is key.

So Id say a first and ty but that can be seen as expensive if youre high on Dellandrea (and as I said I'm personally not but doesn't mean he isn't good). Whereas I view Dellandrea on the same page as Heponiemi and Bellows. I dont have him as the same value as Suzuki.

Dallas would also need money moved so a cap move would be involved - whether its Comeau, or Cogs etc any Dallas would want gone would be involved (which can get a piece in return depending on whos involved etc).

Otter and Harley are non starters as you stated.

Dell would be on the same level as Suzuki, one was drafted 13th the other 28th, Dell was better in the WJ than Suzuki. He would be a 2-3 center depending on his development and he’s great two ways. I’ve seen a couple people compare him to NRob in terms of value. I would love to ship someone like Dobby for cap reasons, I don’t know if you would want him. Maybe something like Dell, a 2nd or a 3rd and Dobby? I’m clueless on his value, need some input.

Yeah personal preference I guess; I just have better expecations for Suzuki but as I said. Dellandrea isnt bad im just not in love.

SJS has no need to pay for a goalie. Theyre trying out Korenar and Melnichuk to finish the year. If anything we'd just use free agency. We can help with cap but Idk if wed pay for someone.

Dallas probably won’t do anything at the TDL anyways, Nill is so lost he only wants players his age. It’s time we kick em to boot. The reason I want to move Dobby is because of Otter. Bish has a full NMC so it’s either Dobby or Otter, I would rather have Otter. Seattle will probably pick Dickinson because they have so many options at goalie. I just want to get for a good price but not many teams are willing to pay much for him. He also interferes with our mini 2 year re-tool because of cap reasons.
