The cap issue was pretty much solved once they moved Andersen to LTIR yesterday. The Leafs want Iafallo because they don't really have top 6 left wingers outside of Hyman, who Keefe would like to play on the 3rd line to shut down teams.

This is definitely a weird one but I could see it happening with LAs 2021 2nd going the other way.

But Toronto's top 2 guys in Sandin and Robertson are pretty much untouchable unless Toronto gets blown away with an offer. With the LTIR move just made, they won't have to move Kerfoot for that little of salary so they won't need to overpay. Toronto also isn't moving a defenceman unless they get one back. Leafs decline very easy.

Well Sandin isn't available. Even straight up for Iafallo wouldn't be enough for Toronto to consider that. & just because you don't want Dermott doesn't mean he doesn't fit. He fits the description of what LA wants in a "serviceable left handed defence under 27". Given a better opportunity he could very well excel as he's a tremendous skater. But Sandin is a non starter in any deal.

It's a buyer's market, you won't be getting a top prospect back for a guy like Iaffalo.

Dermott has a bad reputation on cap friendly because TO guys trade him all the time and he hasn't taken on a top 4 role yet. So everyone assumes he's bad. He isn't, he's very good and has been one of the best 3rd pair defenceman in the NHL and just hasn't had a chance to really move up the lineup. Too many better guys ahead of him. Or when he has had a chance it was last season when the top 2 defenceman on the team were hurt and the Leafs had no one else.

Not in Cap Hell they proved that this year. What they will continue to due is fill the periphery with cheap 1 year deals to fill out the roster. Dermott is very likely going to Seattle next season, if not he will battle for the 3rd pair again. A weaker team could give him a good opportunity but he won't get it in TO. I don't think TO wants to move this season. They need him for the playoffs

Also another reason kings probably don’t trade for him. Why trade for a player if he probably will be picked up by Seattle? Risky move

not in any deal. But in a rental he's a non starter. Someone that would make more of an impact and have term on their contract then his name might come up more in talks. More like a top 6 forward or top 4 defenceman. Leafs management has been incredibly high on him since day 1. He's a young guy on an ELC that can step into the lineup if needed and on a cap strapped team that highly valuable. Taking on a third line pending UFA isn't exactly enticing enough for a top prospect.

You're right, there is no reason why the Leafs need Iafallo. It's certainly an overpay by the Leafs. His 24 points, compared to Kerfoot 17 doesn't make him that desirable, and Kerfoot has been a good centre this year.
Again the nonsense of suddenly elevating Spezza and Thornton to play centre where the haven't played this season.

Galchenyuk has been great in that spot. Hence the reason why Dubas said the need for a top 6 forward isn't as urgent now. Iafallo isn't a top 6 guy, he's a defensive minded 3rd liner. A good one, but he's still not a top 6 guy
