Marner Reilly and sandin for chychrun and garland

Created by: Leafsfan789
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 6, 2021
Published: Jun. 6, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
A team that has actual depth scoring, and debatably the best d core in the league. Not gonna try and tell u that the leafs win that marner trade but it allows to sign dougie Hamilton and good depth. If Campbell keeps it up I think this is easily an upgrade to last years team.

Garland is unreal - pretty sure if I remember the statline correctly he was the most efficient point per dollar cost player. Guys deserves more than 4m x 5 years lol. That fact alone plus chychurn idk if Arizona even entertains it.

Chychrun > Rielly by a mile

Garland is close enough to Marner and doesn’t cost 11m.

They could sell both guys for quality assets to rebuild or recoup youth parts if they ever began selling star players. Doubt they’d move them for 16m+ in cash for players who aren’t better realistically.

Carolina offered dougie 6 mil. He won’t get more than 8 so max I’m 500k off. I don’t think Garland will get more, if it wasn’t flat cap different story.

If u look at the cap hit yea ur right, but after marner gets his signing bonus this summer Arizona will only owe him 24 mil over the next 4 years. They are not even close enough to the cap to worry abt his cap hit only what they actually have to pay him.

Why are Toronto fans trying to trade Marner? Matthews is the one that’s a problem that you need to trade and you would get that pair plus more for him because it’s Arizona and he’s a local boy going home. As far as this deal, Dubas never does it because he looses big time.

Yeah but Cap still matters. Arizona if they were to sell Chychrun and Garland they’d basically start rebuilding - and they could weaponize cap. Which wouldn’t be as EASY with Marner. Not saying it’ll be super hard but it’d be a lot easier to weaponize cap without Marner/ they’d have more flexibility. They could sell Rielly with retention but then again; they could just sell Chychrun for more - you know what I’m saying?

Marner isn’t super far ahead of Garland and Chychrun is better than Rielly so Sandin is a nice piece but idk if it’s the best move for Arizona personally.

Even after this trade Arizona would have 25 mil in cap space w only 7 depth players to sign. I don’t rlly know what u mean by weaponizong the cap but Marners cap wouldn’t ruin anything for them. If they r able to sign Reilly and sandin than I think this trade would fully be worth it for them.

Weaponzing cap means in a flat cap world which we are in it’s better to have a surplus of cap to do anything with. Take on dead contracts/ caps for assets.

As I said Marner would not hinder their ability to do so. But it definitely wouldn’t help. It’s a lot easier to have freedom and flexibility without Marners 11m cap hit, regardless of having a lot of space. More can be better with so many teams struggling for cap space this coming offseason.

And as I said I don’t think Arizona gets the good end of this deal so it makes it even less enticing for them to consider it. They already have Chychrun who’s better and younger than Rielly and idk if Sandin fills that gap. And once again as I said - they could just sell these guys you acquired for some quality assets and not have to take the worse end of the deal. It’s not a bad trade. Just one that I don’t think is necessary for Arizona. Cause they ain’t winning next year most likely.

Arizona only takes that if Marner is retained significantly and another piece thrown in.

That's the most overblown stat there is. The guy made almost league minimum last season.

He's likely to get around $5.5-$6M and if he produces the same then that stat is thrown out the door.

It means he’s out performed bigger names and big deal rookies.

It’s not a super meaningful stat line but it helps provide some context to how good he can be.

Leafs do the Arizona trade just to free up cap...but I'm doubting Arizona would,
But I don't like the Leaf trading so much of their NHL depth for nothing. Again, the Leafs bottom enders seemed to get blamed for the loss to the Habs. Lets stop the Hamilton nonsense.

It's a pointless fact. He was signed to a deal midway through a season where he played 47 games. I don't remember exactly how many he had played but it was something like 30 games or so then he signed an extension. He was also on ice for 65 points this season, when the majority of those players that have that many points had more experience when they signed their extension so they got usually $5M +

    It's an absolute garbage stat.

Smart move getting Marner. Then Matthews will 100% want to sign there when he's an ufa. I think Garland should get 8 years and around 7 mil. Chychrun is just so good and at such a great cap so Arizona could get better deals for him. If im the Arizona gm I want 2 1st from Leafs on top of this. Yes im that crazy. Just because Marner is getting payed almost 12m you could argue Garland is worth about the same. It depends on the cap situasion a team is in. My team the oilers for example. No way we could fit Marner on our team but Garland would fit just nicely.
