Why are we giving up Nylander for 1 year of Seth Jones?

No. More. Trades. With. Boston.

Nylander trade is really bad.

Detroit very likely says no as well.

Who cares if its with boston or not? Boston has been 10 times the team the leafs have been. What would you rather do keep trading with teams of mediocracy and bringing back mediocre talent. Rielly is gone at the end of the season, get out ahead of it and improve depth in bottom 6 with players that are under control. Cap isnt going up

Leafs got the best player in Nylander deal? how is that bad?

Detroit doesn't matter you have to shed Kerfoot's salary. Could be lost in expansion anyway.

Leafs need to add more picks. Your organization is better welcoming in three players to your system than one.

This roster construction is based upon the intrinsic value of players which the Leafs have failed to address in years past. You have to look at players like Debrusk, Kuhlman, Janmark, Bellemare, McGinn (all players who reached the second round of the playoffs this season playing bottom six roles for good teams; Colorado, Vegas, Boston, Carolina) and put them in positions where they naturally fit. All players with more pedigree and bring a role to the team that the numbers don't make sense of but the eye test does. Players with defined roles in proper slots, opposed to the collection of misfit players Toronto has been trying to role out the past few seasons. (Engvall, Mikheyev, Kerfoot, Ennis, Thornton, Simmonds, Boyd, Vesey, Gauthier, Moore, Lindholm, Timashov, Korshkov, Petan, Aberg, Malgin, the list goes on.) This shows an ability to adress bottom 6 roles necessary for competition in the playoffs.

Also shows an upgrade on defence. Jones is a better player than Rielly. (Bigger, smarter, more in your face, more difficult to play against, better shot, etc.)

Doesn't matter team. Need to shed Kerfoot's salary. (Just an example)

Then why not put that in the trade description?

Sign and trade. (with Jones)

If it's a sign-and-trade we're going to want more and better than that.

Can we please stop trading Engvall to Edmonton? Plenty of guys like him out there for less money. You aren't getting even a depth pick for him from Edmonton.

Jones is far better and more valuable player than Nylander. Mikheyev is a replaceable player and need to shed cap.(lots of other payers that skate 100mph and don't hit or score)

If you're trading Nylander you can only bring back ONE player tops and it has to be an impact one; Jones is. Cap is not moving. Can't bring back multiple players that make money.

Honestly depth pick would be ideal. He could be buried in the minors, taken by Seattle, who knows, he's a replaceable player and makes too much money to be one of those so just picked a team that needs help addressing bottom 6 with cap space. Sorry.

I was speaking from the Jackets' perspective.

I would agree. Jackets are in a tough spot though because he doesn't want to be there. Ultimately, they have to decide how a player like Nylander at 6.9M with control compares to other deals. Unlikely, they get a deal that knocks their socks off because a team would just wait and take a run at him in free agency.

I don't know if the Jackets would feel comfortable going down the same road like they did with Panarin and Bobrovsky. Their team isn't exactly what it was in 2019 to take that gamble. Either way it will be interesting to see how that whole saga plays out.

No worries, it's just that 90% of the AGMs with a Toronto Edmonton trade involve Edmonton taking a cap dump. We're coming out of salary cap hell but trying to contend so are unlikely to take over market value contracts without incentive. Plus we had a ton of guys to play 4C but haven't really found that true 3C yet.

Yeah no aha that makes sense. Engvall isn't really a fourth line centre either though lol. He's just not an NHL player period. Actually, I should correct myself, he can play in the league but he's probably not going to find himself on a team that is sniffing around a cup.
