No he didn’t. That report was b.s. the Habs never made him a contract offer. Confirmed by the Danault camp.

Two pre Covid contracts for players who are both significantly better offensively than Danault. Try again.

He was 6th in selke votes and his performance this playoffs proves he’s easily worth 5 million if not more

Based on what? Show me a defensive specialist who makes $5mm who doesn’t provide much offense in the playoffs.

$3.5mm is the number.

Danault is going to push the high 4's, maybe someone desperate pays 5 for him. 3.5M is the money you pay an average 3C... if Danault is really a decent/good 2C, as Habs fans like to claim, you're going to have to pay him like it.

You’re arguing for conformity ahead of providing actual reasons for your thinking?

Doesn’t make me wrong. Could another team offer him more? Sure. It’ll probably take a year before they regret it.

The Leafs offered Mike Komisarek $4.5mm, remember that?

Whoever pays Danault $5mm isn’t going to be any good.

People join cults for similar reasons. Come on man, everyone’s doing it.

And for the record, you’re arguing with me. This is my post.

5x$3.25mm is the contract that Adam Lowry (described by TSN and sportsnet as the best 3C in the league) signed this season.

What are you basing your opinion on that it’s what an average 3C gets paid?

Danault has 1 goal in 32 career playoff games. He had a 40 game regular season goalless streak between last season and this year. Bergevin isn’t dumb, (can’t say the same for a lot of the ac gms), and he knows that defensive centers are replaceable. If Danault wants more money, he can probably get it elsewhere, but it’ll be from a bad team with no real shot at winning.

$3.5mm is the right cap hit for him to stay in Montreal.

You sound like you might as well be his agent.

Bergevin isn’t Dubas. If the player overreaches, he’ll just let him walk. Jake Evans is already at least 3/4 of the way to becoming Danault. Might even end up being better offensively when it’s all said and done. Also, a player like Nick Bonino would be able to replace most of what Danault would do the next 2 years at a fraction of the cost.

$3.5mm is the right number for Danault on this team. It’s up to him to decide whether or not he wants to be here.

Just like the Leafs thinking was with Komisarek back in the day. How’d that work out for you?

Komisarek is not even a forward lul wrong comparison in its entirety. Dman often make money and provide little points. Its a gamble with them. Forwards especially centers make money and a good amount at that

Lets me put it simple so you can understand it

If Bergevin offers Danault 3.5x6 he and his agent will say thanks but no thanks and go to another competitive team

Wreckless, we all know 5M for Danault it’s too expensive, but he’s not just a 3C, he’s an Elite defensive Center who doesn’t make mistakes on the ice + very good at faceoffs. We all know 5M it’s too much and we will regret it after 2 years. But that’s the price too keep him. I wouldn’t personally with Evans & Poehling

He will end up getting $5.5m X 6 in the end to stay in Mtl. That’s just logical at this point. Without him they would not have made it out of the first round. Anyone who knows anything about hockey will agree.

I agree cause lets be honest

Bergevin offers him that contract this guys suggests hes gonna go yeah **** off

And from there Boston will sign him to replace Kreiji giving him his desired contract

which will result in Bergevin being ridiculed by the fanbase

and ownership firing him as a result

and every game against boston fans will be watching him win faceoffs resulting in Hall burying pucks behind price or allen

Just for reference, 25-27 yo seasons (all +/- 1 year for their next contracts):
Danault: 205 games, 30g (.15g/g), 94a (.46 a/g), 124p (.6p/g), 49p/yr pace.
JPG: 184 games, 44g (.24g/g), 39a (.21a/g), 83p (.45 p/g), 37p/yr pace
Lowry: 179 games, 26(.15g/g), 31a (.17a/g), 57p (.32p/g), 26p/yr pace
Nelson: 245 games, 64g (.26g/g), 69a (.28 a/g), 133p (.54p/g), 44p/yr pace.
Henrique: 243 games, 74g (.3g/g), 66a (.27 a/g), 140p (.58p/g), 47.5p/yr pace

Danault is low on goal scoring, but the best for assists and points. 100k/point (decent baseline for FWDs) is a $5m/yr deal, and that's without the "center tax" teams pay.
