Vegas rolls the dice on Johansen

Created by: ZPirtle
Team: 2021-22 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Jun. 25, 2021
Published: Jun. 25, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Random idea, but if Vegas is in need of a top 6 center and Nashville retools the core, does a Johansen or Duchene trade make sense? Going with Johansen in this case because I think we're stuck with the Duchene contract for a while longer.

Im not sure cap strapped VGS can afford Johansen.

Best bet for moving him is to convince SEA to take him in expansion or trade him for an equally tough contract (JVR?).

HMMM...in fact an ellis and johansen for VanReimsdyk and TKoneckny deal sounds interesting.

That’s a big and expensive gamble. I don’t touch him if I’m Vegas.

I think Vegas would be better off pursuing other centres like maybe eichel or couture.
I don't hate this idea though, but for the money it wouldn't work I don't think. Maybe if they found a team to retain half of his salary plus Nashville maybe retaining a mill or two, that might be the best way to go about it.

Vegas should get the higher pick tho, arguable Smith is the better player currently, RJo is definitely an anchor contract as it stands: needs incentivizing

Just under 0.5 pts/g in his past 2 seasons 😬

Dunno if nsh are keen to retain and add picks

That would be very interesting, I just think Nashville, like alot of teams, are lacking in the centre department. How many more wingers can they bring in unless they trade some?

For sure. However for that long and at that much money. It’s going to be near impossible.

I feel those picks could be swapped for the value. Does Vegas want to break up that second line? And considering Nashville bought out turris's big contract, I could see them maybe retaining 1-2 million. Would make it easier for Vegas to find a partner to broker another 2-3. The term is what sucks for that middle team, the compensation would have to be a first and maybe a bit more.

A team like Detroit or new Jersey might be able to take two mill for 5 years for a first round pick.

If Vegas is swinging for a top center, they’d go after Eichel. Why send assets for a ?

The payment for Johansen isn't really much, I think of they swapped those picks around could make it work. Considering what the payment for eichel would be this is pretty cheap. Vegas would have to trade a big package just to get eichel and then probably still pay a team to retain money to make it work.

I’d do this deal. I think it makes more sense for the picks to be swapped and NSH retaining some money though.

Idk why Vegas takes this risk that he’ll rebound after two underwhelming seasons. They don’t have the cap flexibility to take a gamble like this. If they’re spending that much cap space it’s gotta be on somebody who is still performing consistently, not a question mark.

I’m not hearing anything here that doesn’t tell me Vegas wouldn’t make the swing for Eichel. The point is you are paying some assets (Smith + 1 round of draft capitol) and paying the actual money overage of the two contracts. It’s actually a big risk.

At least if you spend a ton of assets for Eichel, you are getting a proven superstar. The only ? There is health, and you wouldn’t make that trade until you do your own medical check.

Vegas shouldn't do this

There are better and cheaper centers available
