they just dont sign landeskog to 8m+ if makar, for some strange reasons, signs a massive OS.
Move that money out from landeskog to probably sign saad (who they could never keep)

I don't see Makar accepting an offer sheet from anyone, unless it's something crazy. He'll re-sign in Colorado and for under 10 at like 6 yrs

I really like the idea, but I feel like that's not big enough of an overpay to get Makar. In five years, Makar will be worth even more than that, so why wouldn't Colorado match for even longer? It's probably only 1 million what Makar will get anyways. If I were offer sheeting, I would offer 13ish million. It's an overpay, but by how much? especially for 7 years.

Makar will sign there
He's not signing an OS, he's a loyal kid.
He could have bailed at UMASS when guy who recruited him got fired.
He stayed and help Carvel put the team on the map.

I wonder if the aves match instantly, or make montreal sweat for a few days.

Also boston and montreal aren’t making a swap like that.

It’s even crazier than that. Canada offered him a spot on the Olympic team if he left and he still stayed.

easy match. The only way a team gets makar is if they literally offer him league max (15 mil)

Did not know that. Nice to see a kid with that kind of values, need more of that today.

The thing is as soon you give more than what OP proposed, you need to give 2 more first round, for a total of 4. Maybe Colorado matches, or maybe they will have sign Landeskog and you run away with Makar.

Anyway, we all know offer sheet never work

An intra division team should send the OS just to make you guys loose landeskog... maybe my hawks lol

cant submit an OS until the first day of the offseason, and if Landy is not signed by then, hes not coming back. Hear what you are saying but OS wont steal Landy away from the Avs, hes already on the market by then

an OS is unrealistic anyways. I'm sure you guys end up keeping both and letting Saad walk. Just a fun hypothetical

well that was after Hockey Canada jerked him around and used him as. PP specialitiest 7th Dman at WJC and still won Canadas top Dman. I dont blame him for turning down the Olympics since they were just going to do that to him again. He wanted to play, not sit on the bench for 5-8mins of PP time

Saad is 100% gone, which sucks bc he fits so well with that middle 6. If there was a way to turn Compher or Donskois cap hit into Saad and he was willing to take a smaller deal round 4x4 to stay....either of those seem unlikely.

unless Erik Johnson is LTIR retired, no real realistic way of keeping Saad

Marc Staal played a position of need for Detroit. 1 year, $5.2M Cap hit (irrelevant due to Detroit's cap space), $3.2M salary (after signing bonus was paid by the Rangers).
Paul Byron does not play a position of need for Detroit. 2 years, $3.4M cap hit (mostly irrelevant due to Detroit's cap space), $4M salary in year one, $2.8M salary in year two.

Byron serves less of a role for Detroit and costs more than double what Staal did. It'll cost significantly more to dump him on Detroit. Add in Montreal's 2021 2nd for starters and go from there.
