That’s not circumventing. Also it would be extremely stupid for Tampa Bay to add extra LTIR when they finally have a chance to accrue some cap space.

I could totally be wrong but I think Kesler is on IR not LTIR which wouldn't give you the cap space?

Huh, I really thought he was on LTIR having not played the last two years or so. But if that's the case obviously a big difference.

Tampa is also in a tough spot with the cap that teams are aware of. No one is going to lob them a softball.

The Seattle deal is god awful for them. Biggest game of the year, Game 5 of SCF, Johnson played. 8:31. ABB was a scratch the entire playoffs...

Lol the title is obviously a joke based on all the "controversy" over the loophole. And they don't have "extra" LTIR, the other guys contracts are up, he is the only one they would have and Kesler isn't coming back. And finally, this is more so exploring "what if Tampa did something similar to what they did with Ottawa last year?". Breathe in, breathe out.

LTIR is for teams over the cap. Ana was never over the cap. Kesler was on IR. On TB he would be on LTIR as they are over the cap...

Calling ABB a scratch makes no sense, he's literally a prospect still

Bob Murray, Jarmo Kekalienen and Steve Yzermann all proved that Theory wrong. Murray Volkov for Morand hardly a fleecing. Savard while expensive not out of line with normal TDL returns for a top pair RHS defenseman. Yzermann got a fair return for cap space at TDL.

No it's only LTIR if teams are up against the cap. If they have tons of cap space then it's the standard IR.

Ok, sorry if I came off agressive. I mean that the only reason they made the Ottawa trade is because they planned to have Kucherov on LTIR for the entire season anyways. So if they’re not already having anyone on LTIR for the entire season, there’s no reason to hinder their cap situation by adding a LTIR contract.

I'm not sure that you're understanding what I'm saying. Volkov wasn't the impediment to their cap, that was a guy who wanted more time so they worked out a deal because they had organizational depth. Savard was an add at the TDL. That's in season moves in response to how it was playing out and in Volkov's case, honoring a request of a player. In terms of offseason moves to move money out without bringing much if any active money in, the closest comparisons are the Staal trade, and the Paquette/Coburn trade. Guess what the Rangers and Tampa got back for those moves? Future considerations, Anders Nilsson, and Marian Gaborik. And yes, they aren't the same kind of players. But Staal played the whole year, as did Paquette. There was interest in Staal but I'm fairly certain he got injured and wasn't moved, and Paquette did get moved later for profit to Carolina. At least in this the Lightning get a player who played in the NHL last year in Stolarz.

All good man, I understand it can be hard to interpret tone online np. I see your point, and it does make sense. I was honestly mostly curious what other contracts like Gaborik were out there still and included players that seem like they're on their way out. I figured the Seabrook one would be a bit too rich lol. Most realistic situation I guess would be they trade guys like Killorn out for hopefully a 2nd or so?
