Tarasenko

Created by: TMLBRIAN
Team: 2021-22 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Aug. 8, 2021
Published: Aug. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I like this deal for all parties involved.

Buffalo gets picks for the retention.
St Louis get a lot of cap space, a very serviceable player in Kerfoot, a strong defensive player in Mikeyev and an A level prospect in Amirov
Leafs take a chance of Tarasenko who could add a ton of scoring if healthy and get Clifford back for some toughness.

Overall this roster looks great. I left the Roster at 23 to show depth. In this case Robertson would probably go down. But i would like to try and get him in the roster. They will not run a 23 player roster. So they would not be over the cap.

Blues are trying to compete now. Their window is over but they havn't come to that conclusion yet. Any move for Tarasenko is probably for another NHL player who can contribute rather than a prospect like Amirov.

Leafs don't want to get rid of them. Kerfoot was really good and Mikhevey is a workhorse. Stl would love him. Also, Amirov = A level prospect.

Kerfoot and Mikheyev would step in right away. Kerfoot can play anywhere in a top 9. Mikhevey is a very hard working defensive guy. Amirov is still the most valuable piece in the package. The package could have Robertson instead but more would need to come to the leafs.

We will probably have to add more in order to get Buffalo to retain that much

Mikheyev has turned to nothing but a fringe 4th liner at best and Kerfoot isn’t much but a decent second or third liner

    Arizona just took on Ghost from Philly with 4.5m x 2 years for a 2nd and a 7th. I am paying a 2nd and a 4th for 3.75m x 2 years. I think the value is fair.

Haven't you just given the reasons the Leafs shouldn't be making the deal?
Mikheyev is better than Clifford. And then to tradeaay Kerfoot, Engvall, a top prospect and 2nd and 4th for two years of now an iffy injured winger. Leafs are much better than Kerfoot at centre, and Spezza on the wing and to to keep the Amirov and the picks.

Decent second/3rd liners tend to go for a nice bit. And Mikheyev is a good 3/4th liner. He is only signed for this year so his value isn't a ton.

Amirov has the most value in this packaged, followed by Kerfoot and then Mikhevyev.

I’m gonna say it right now we won’t get anything better from Kerfoot though I do hope I’m wrong I just don’t see it

The retention could be done from several teams. Arizona, detroit and sabres come to mind. Sabers will need to reach the cap floor as well and are the least likely to hit that right now without taking on salary.

This is a risky move for the leafs. But the potential upside would be incredibly high. This type of move could push them into stanley cup type of range. But it could also flop. The potential upside of this team is higher than the one you listed. But the potential downside is higher also. I think they should take the risk.

The biggest risk is Spezza hasn't even been a full time 3C and that's where he slotted with Kerfoot gone. What happens if Matthews and Tavares are injured. Besides there seems to be a lot of love for Tarasenko....and don't know why. It's 2021.

Spezza can actually win faceoffs unlike Kerfoot. But getting a guy like Tierney could be an option as well to bolster C depth. Willy can play centre also (i actually liked him there). Would give brooks a shot also if a guy goes down.

But I would be very happy keeping Kerfoot and running with the crew they got now. Although I don't love going into the season without Reilly being extended. And Dmen are signing for way too much right now. 7 x 7 would be perfect for him. But after the recent signings, he should also get 9m a year, which the leafs should not do.

Contending teams shouldn't be worrying about upcoming UFAs. Leafs need Reilly this season. But if he walks, he walks. So be it. Just spend that cap you had allotted to him on another player(s).
Yea I can't believe some of this Dmen contracts that have been awarded starting next season.

Tarasenko is damaged goods. No teams are giving any major pieces to gamble on the fact he may yet rebound from more time healing. Honestly, if I was TOR I wouldn't make that trade. I think STL gets better from this trade and TOR potentially gets worse. STL gets some very good depth out of this to compliment adding Buch and Saad.

Teams wouldn't give a 1st for Dunn who got picked over Tarasenko. I wouldn't give up that much for Tarasenko.

wouldn't say that. Kyrou and Thomas had breakouts in the short period of time. It's a retool the window isn't over they are just rebranding it with the young players we have we can be a powerhouse. Scott Perunovich replacing Vince Dunn, Niko Mikkola replacing Robert Bortuzzo. It's gonna be a retool not a rebuild.

the difference is that they get an actually useful player and they are only helping 1 other team. Here they are helping 2 and not even getting a roster player. Also Arizona probably believes ghost will bounce back
