There is no incentive for the Jets to do that. Why would they weaken their defense?

Jets don't have the cap space to retain just to accommodate the Leafs.

If jets were having further cap issues( they won’t) but dermott for demelo no retention might tempt them but they aren’t trading for the lesser dman without cause bc of cap issues

I am not sure a 2nd gets retention but a 2nd for Demelo is pretty reasonable. Asking for Sandin is just insane. I suppose Copp is worth Nylander at 50% retained as well.

Well that is something neither of us can answer. However, I will once again say, asking for Sandin is just silly. Funny how I said you were one of the people who thinks reasonable is a slam dunk one sided trade where the Leafs lose and then suggest Demelo is worth Sandin as a starting point. DeMelo is a good defensive defensemen who fits in well with Winnipeg and Chevy likes him why would he ever want to trade him

I mean there gonna need cap space to extend PLD and Copp and get a proper backup for buck. Plus Heinola or Samberg need a spot. So hes probs gonna get moved at some point

Do you have any proof of this? DeMelo only has a 6 team NTC and there are 32 teams in the league. I can't imagine he'd leave teams like Buffalo, Arizona and Chicago off that list.

3. They just traded for Dillon and Schmidt.
4. They just signed Stastny and Lowry.
5. They aren't moving Connor, Scheifele, Dubois, Ehlers, Pionk or Hellebuyck.
6. Only other player making more than 1.5M is DeMelo.
7. They left DeMelo exposed in the expansion draft.

As a Jets fan, I actually like that deal. DeMelo isn’t THAT good, and we need to get rid of one of our defenceman if Heinola is gonna play this season.

I guess, he can go for whatever as far as I'm concerned, DeMelo is pretty overrated imo just don't see retention happening if they moved him.

Depending on the season he has and if he even wants to extend in Winnipeg PLD'S raise might be doable with Stastny coming off the books and Beaulieu expiring frees up a bit more but yeah its pretty tight to make it all fit after the Schmidt and Dillon trades.
It's ridiculous that Heinola looks like he's the odd man out this year unless another move on the backend is coming, the kid is ready for the NHL.
