Easy no from Minnesota. That is a massive overpayment for a rental.

Minnesota easily passes, as ^ said, he will be a rental for them, they still have to sign Kaprizov and their cap situation next year doesn’t get much better. (In fact I think it gets worse because of the buyouts.) Not worth giving up Rossi for 1 year of Hertl. Canes take that deal though.

He has 2 years on his contract and you're paying a late 1st and a late 2nd.

Thought he was still an RFA at the end of the year? Also realized he has a 10 mill QO. Oof

So you're saying MTL could give you a singular '22 2nd round pick with Byron, you'll send Burns and pay half his wages, you'll then turn around and buy out Byron so MTL can rework him into the financial framework better... they'd pave MB a golden street and rename the city after him if he could pull that off

I feel that Canes would take that. QO or not, that is worth two years of Timo. As long as GMDW doesn’t play hardball too bad, Meier would probably stick around for cheaper than 10 million.

The infamous canes fan doesn’t know players’ values and their contract status as well. Ignore him.

MTL trade is just terrible for SJ and we don’t do the Canes one either. Calgary trade is kinda bad for us too.

Yup. He caught a loophole and basically assured himself either a big payday, leg up in long-term negotiations or early free agency.
The loophole has been closed now, but Meier (and anyone else signed before the change) will operate under the old rule.
The new rule is equal to 120% of the AAV or salary in the final year, whichever is lower. So under the new rule, his QO offer would be $7.2M ($6M + 120%), since it is lower than his final year salary of $10M.

I highly doubt Lucic waives his NMC, but CGY accepts.

The usual "tear it down" scenario. Trading long term awful contracts (if this case the Sharks) for moderate or semi bad contracts. Ain't happening when all teams are cap strapped.

Wait, you want the Sharks to retain $9,750,000 plus Byron's buyout in exchange for two late seconds and Zaitsev? Buddy, that's not worth it, even if you factor in the cap savings.

Burns is no longer relevant in today's NHL and has no value for the Montreal Canadiens
