That's a gross overpayment for Rielly. I would argue Sanheim for Rielly straight up is fair considering Rielly is a rental, but if pressed, maybe you add a 3rd onto Sanheim. A 1st plus Sanheim? No way.

I mean the got a first back for Risolanen and Chicago payed a lot for Jones for the price that defencemen are going for this offseason in the trade market I’d say the leafs could get a kings ransom for Reilly.

From the right team sure, but honestly out of all teams in the league Leafs is probably the one who needs Rielly the most. It makes no sense for a retooler to pay a premium for a rental D, and the contenders can't either afford the guy or are already stacked with LHDs.

I think Philly can use Rielly and they have the space, but not at that price. Sanheim is a good dman and is still only 25. He's about to enter his prime. Rielly is not worth a piece like that PLUS a first rounder. Not for one year of Rielly anyway.

The Risto trade is a bad comparison. There were no major roster players involved.

Jones was technically a rental. As long as Reilly agrees to resign, this is a very fair trade.

The flyers don’t need or want Rielly they already have Provorov in the top pairing so there is no need for him

He negotiated a deal prior to the trade papers going through. You can negotiate while having a year left on your contract.
