Why are you moving Mikheyev at all? They don't need to and you're throwing him away for absolutely nothing. This is awful.

IMO this proves my point. A larger salary needs to be moved out. Also, Mikheyev has more value than a 7th. Does he have stone hands, sure, but he is aggressive on the forecheck, kills PK, can play in the top 6.

Moving Kerfoot or if no deal is in place, trading Rielly before the season starts is the right move. Although moving Rielly now that teams are set could be too hard. If they had any thoughts of trading him, it should have happened before the draft.

Would’ve rather gotten rid of Engvall than Mikheyev

I agree with you about Mikheyev and his play. At his best, he is a "mini Hyman". IMO the Leafs should not have signed Ritchie......just for cap reasons. Plus I'm not sure if Kase is gonna to help.
Actually I have been a defender of both Mikheyev and Engvall. I think they provide good value for their 2.9m total.

Agree with you but to make 22 man roster, I had to do this way. If there is a more expensive player on LTIR to start the season, maybe Mikheyev stays.

I don’t mind the Ritchie signing, it’s the Simmonds one I don’t understand. They should have waited IMO, I don’t understand the rush to sign him before FA started. That 900k could help.
I’m also a Joey Anderson fan and have a feeling they are going to lose him for nothing. Don’t see him clearing waivers

At least you could waive Simmons to the Marlies and not hurt the cap. If Anderson is claimed, he has to stay on an NHL roster.

There is no chance Keefe/Dubas sends Simmonds to the minors. Anderson could easily find a role with ARI, SEA, DET

CapFriendly really just needs to make an “Anywhere” trade option.

@palhal I’m offended you don’t have Mikheyev and Engvall going anywhere for picks…

On a serious note. I don’t like this. Mikheyev is a very serviceable player and was simply snake bitten last year. If he buried 25% of his short handed break aways he would have had 10 more goals last year. And what’s even more scary is that’s not an exaggeration lol. There’s still some more moves to come around the league. Don’t be surprised if the leafs make a move no one saw coming.

Well, I trying to make a simple 22 man roster. I agree with you about Mikheyev. He's seems to be one of the four Leafs whipping boys on this site. Mikheyev is good value at 1.625m and certainly had potential to play beyond his contract. Gee, I feel Engvall is OK to good for his 1.25m. Dermot and Kerfoot seem are the other two whipping boys.

I’m definitely guilty of Dermott being a whipping boy. I just get so frustrated with his play. But for now he is a cheap option. And still very young. At least we’ve moved on from Mar Mar

Honestly I think the teams fine. LW is a weak but who knows Bunting could prove to be a diamond in the ruff and produce similar to what Verhege did in Florida. Ritchie is good when hes not getting into trouble. Expect Keefe to correct said behaviour and if Kase can stay healthy that contract is not only a steal but a trade chip. Like the only piece Dubas didnt really replace was Bogosian but there's still time and guys available.

I know people were upset with Mikheyev but he did come off a serious wrist injury. Give him time as 2 seasons ago he was on a 50 point pace. While I dont expect him to do it he should be a good bottom 6 grinder chipping in goals and being solid on the PK. Plus put him with Matthews and Marner and you could have yourself a speedy Hyman replacement. Plus if you count the 5 goals taken away from him via bad calls or other guys tipping it in he would have 12 goals and 10 assists which for a third liner aint bad.

My prediction though is Dubas is not done. I have a feeling Rielly and Dermott could potentially be moved and Dubas will make a deal with a rebuilding team for one or two of its pieces. Anaheim comes to mind as rn per reports Manson, Lindholm, Fowler, Gibson, Rakell among others are available. There is also Demers available via fa who by now should come pretty cheap

My prediction should we see Rielly and Dermott be moved is

Mikheyev-Matthews-Marner
Bunting-Tavares-Nylander
Ritchie-Kerfoot-Kase
Simmonds-Kampf-Spezza

Fowler-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Sandin-Demers

I think they should make him shorten his stick a couple of inches, so he has better control of the puck. His speed is amazing and where he belongs is on the 3rd line. Don't know if you watched the leafs when they had Petr Zezel-BillBerg-Mark Osborne as their checking line, imo the best in NHL history. Zezel set the wingers up so many times for tap ins that they would miss, they became afraid to shoot. IIya has got in his own head.

Ilya maybe in the top 10 in the league in speed. He creates a lot of chances so maybe have Bunting on the 3rd line with him and Kampf because there is no doubt Bunting is a finisher.

There's some names I havent heard in a long time! Zezel is one of the least talked about players from that era. Underrated.

He’s decent but not top 6 worthy yet there’s a chance he could be but for now he’s a fringe bottom sixer
