Arizona is going to win the Christian Dvorak trade

Created by: sensonfire
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 4, 2021
Published: Sep. 4, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. 2022 1st round pick (CAR)
  2. 2022 3rd round pick (CAR)
CAR
2.
MTL
  1. Dvorak, Christian
Additional Details:
Arizona will receive the better of the two first-round picks that Montreal owns, both their own and Carolina’s (received today as compensation for Jesperi Kotkaniemi). The first-round pick is also semi-top-10 protected, meaning that if one of Montreal’s first-round selections is in the top 10 of the 2022 draft, Arizona will receive the worse of the two picks.
ARI
  1. 2022 1st round pick (MTL)
  2. 2024 2nd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
This is more than what I suggested in a previous post of mine.

Most people that commented on my post hated the idea.

If one of the pick is top 10 then Arizona takes the other one, the 2nd rounder is almost irrelevant to us as our pipeline will be shooting players to us so it's likely we trade someone away by then for another 2nd. Last time we took a center from Arizona everything went well so I'll just be here waiting.

Basically for Habs it is Kotko and a 2nd for Dvorak and 3rd.

Montreal wins that.

Not at all, a Montreal first is way more valuable than a CAR 1st, I’d say mtl doesn’t make the playoffs

What does Arizona have to do with Kotkaniemi?

The trade itself isn’t bad, but the fact that they lost Kotkaniemi to do this is very bad.

They move down a few spots in the draft. Not a huge difference middle and late 1st.

I said from Habs perspective. They came out ahead. Zona got a 1st and 2nd for a guy that was probably not worth it. They came out ahead too. Carolina, not so much.

I’d argue Montreal’s could very well be top 10, losing Weber danault and Tatar hurts. The young players’ development will lessen the blow but they still got considerably worse. No way they make the playoffs unless they somehow grab the 2nd wild card away from someone in the metro

This is what I thought Dvorak was worth. Habs fans undervalued him before, now they will overvalue him. Then go from overvaluing KK to undervaluing him. Its funny how much "being a hab" increases the value of a player within MTL.

Dvorak is a nice player, but Montreal should have done a quick rebuild instead with the assets from the offer sheet

If Montreal and Carolina finish at the bottom of the league, Arizona could have the 2nd overall pick for 2022.

Per the conditions on the pick.

To me, that's a win for Arizona.

A chance on a millions. The fact that we still keep the best pick (top 10) make it fair for me.

I'll never understand why people have this obsession with declaring winners and losers from trades for picks. Both teams have different goals here. Montreal wants to be better now, Arizona wants to be better in the future. Both have achieved their goals, theres no loser here.

I don't think Carolina will finish in the top 3 of the Metropolitan division. Isles, Pittsburgh, Washington and Philly are ahead of them. They lost their #1 D and their goaltending is average at best. They'll be lucky to be a wildcard team.

And if Colorado finishes last in the league they could have Shane Wright play with Nathan MacKinnon.

How do you figure that?

The stip is Arizona gets the better of the 2 picks unless either or both are in the top 10 and then they get the worse of the 2. Only way possible would be 1 and 2 in the lottery. Not happening. Canes are a playoff team.

Zona may get 2nd overall, but it will be with their own pick lol.
