Actually the Oil need him because Stalock is out for a long time, and Smith has been a little banged up. Wouldn't want to risk having only Skinner Konovalov is Smith has any injury issues.

Absolutely terrible for the Oilers... trade away our back-up with salary retention and a dependable 6/7D that plays both sides for a mid round pick. 2 holes in the line-up that a 3rd won't fill.

Oilers need Koskinen just as much. One injury away from Smith and you're then down to Skinner and Konovalov.

Same for Russell, he is likely their 6th defender with Samorukov injured and Lagesson has seeming to taken a step back.

Koskinen is better than Montembeault is better than Hutchinson. Which is easy to say, but regardless this is the worst time for EDM to make this move.

Lucky for us, Marc Bergevin is not fool... You can keep your overpaid backup goalie, we already have the staff to start the season, so Oilers don't need to call Montreal unless you have a replacement for S.Weber.
