Swinnys Montreal Retool

Created by: swinny
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 19, 2021
Published: Oct. 19, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Strome, Dylan
Additional Details:
Habs need a top 9 centre. Full stop.

At only 24, and having shown signs of top 6 potential, here we have a player that can grow with the core and do so on a reasonable deal.
CHI
  1. Armia, Joel
Additional Details:
Not a Hawks fan, but...... looking at that line up, Armia becomes such a great fit on the 3rd line. Money is pretty Jake, and Armia is under 30 on a reasonable term. His game really fits nicely with what the Hawks have going on.
2.
MTL
  1. Leddy, Nick ($1,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Still in rebuild mode, Detroit is likely to move Leddy. Solid enough two way defenders who can most definitely do things offensively. Good candidate to resign to a similar deal.
DET
  1. Kulak, Brett
  2. Poehling, Ryan
  3. 2022 3rd round pick (MTL)
Additional Details:
Kulak basically goes to Detroit to fill the roster spit (and given that contract a very movable asset again). Wings have good young depth on the blueline, so I do see Leddy as a stop gap for them.

Since Strome has been acquired, I would suggest Peohling becomes expendable. I really like his game, but he also had the chance to make this team and failed. A change of scenery at this point can do him a world of good. Forward prospects is where I see the Wings being thinner..... Peohling fits an organizational need - centre.

Given Peohling's performance to this point, I think a 3rd greases the wheel here.

Leddy was hired specifically to mentor Moritz Seider. The only reason Detroit is going to trade him for is if he refuses to extend his contract and if that happens he'll be traded at the deadline, not before.

I argue Mark Staal does the same job here.

All about a mentor programme, but I say that package makes a lot of sense for the Wings.

Detroit's 100% not trading Leddy now, Poehling. Kulak and a 3rd round pick no thanks we can get better. Leddy should easily return a 2nd and B prospect all by himself.

Mtl decided a while ago to not go after Leddy... not sure why as I think he would fit perfectly!

Hawks fan would say No to Armia @ 4M playing on the 4th in MTL... maybe more a more affordable guy like Lehky + OK-Propsepct

Armia = 2nd round pick
Poehling = B prospect
Kulak = 4th round pick

The offer is better than your ask.

Kulak is a dump, not an asset and Armia isn't on the trade.

Even aside from the fact that Armia wasn't part of the deal, he's not worth a 2nd, nor is he an asset the Wings want.

My bad about Armia, Kulak is not a cap dump, just cause you don't like someone doesn't make them a dump. I don't like Burtuzzi should I call him a cap dump? No cause he has value just like Kulak does.

Bertuzzi has term left kulak will be an ufa after the season. Kulak has value as a depth piece for a playoff team but to Detroit hes just a guy who will play 15 games and leave. Armia id take on my team any day. Dude is hard to play against.

Kulak does not have value to other teams. He is a dime a dozen player. I'm not saying you shouldn't like him, but come on now... Even saying he and a 1st line player like Bertuzzi in the same breath is laughable. Kulak is MAYBE a 3rd pair defensemen on most teams. That is not an asset.

Kulak's a dump he's no asset to us. Poehling hasn't proven a thing yet he has 5 career NHL goals in 28 games so far not needed. Still no thanks we can get better then this offer. Leddy isn't getting moved until at least the TDL and Montreal isn't making the playoffs.

Where the F did I say Kulak was a 1st line player?! I said he had VALUE like a 4th round pick. I said you just say he has no value because you don't like him. The fact that you said he is a 3rd liner proves he has value, while it isn't high value it is still value. The only players who don't have value are the ones that don't play in the NHL regularly like Galchenyuk and Hickey all other players have value.
