Then the leafs will have no choice but to keep him. They are too tight to the cap to retain any salary.

I don't think the Caps are giving back Hagelin unless the Leafs add a 3rd.

Not necessarily, Ritchie is "tough" and "gritty" so perhaps that could be a factor.

Because the Leafs know Nick Ritchie doesn't work in their top six, but they don't know yet whether Hagelin does. Similar offense and defense, but by different means. Maybe Hagelin's foot speed and puck control will work better opposite Marner or Nylander than Ritchie did.

The Caps like the fourth line they have, but Ritchie would work there, too.

i dont like regular season ritchie but he will be a better playoff player for us

Here's one things to consider though:

Good point. Richie has 9 points in 38 playoff games. Hagelin has 50 pts in 141 playoff games, and won back to back Cups.

Are you saying you want to add a prospect, too? Or is a 3rd enough?
