Noway is Nashville giving up a 1st round pick for Weber, He's probably never going to play again. Nashville easily declines.

While that may be a little much I think people will be very surprised at how much Nashville will end up giving up to get Shea back. Montreal at the end of the season can apply to "retire" him which would trigger the recapture penalties of which Nashville has roughly 25 million of.

What kind of misinformation is going around in MTL, that leads Habs fans to think they can get a king's ransom from NSH for Weber? He's on LTIR and there's a 99.99% chance he's never healthy enough to play again. NSH isn't going to suffer any sort of dire cap penalties because of that.

A team can't force an injured player to retire. Weber would stand to lose $6M if they did that.

Actually Nashville would be on the hook if he retired.

Why would Weber choose to retire though? He has severe injuries that will likely ever prevent him from playing again. He'll get the rest of the millions still owed on his contract from insurance, by remaining on LTIR. There's no upside for him to give that up and choose to officially retire instead.

That wasn’t the point being made.

Montreal can’t force Weber to retire. Only Weber can make that decision. Heck Nashville could trade for him and he still choose to retire. There’s no point in Nashville trading for Weber. He either retires and we are hit with cap recapture penalties or he goes on LTIR and Montreal gets to deal with it.

Teams don’t get to forcefully retire players.

Sorry, no logic in that statement. Montreal can't apply for Weber to retire (where to you come up with this). Weber's choice....play or retire. If Weber is medically unfit to play....the NHL decides.
There s no benefit to Nashville gets Weber back. Recapture penalties apply wherever he is a Hab or Pred....and only if it's a player retirement, due to the front loading of the contract.

Ok stop this madness. The trade happens not so Weber can play again he is never playing again after this season. The reason why Nashville trades for him and they are going to it’s already agreed upon is so the don’t have o ok at him 7.25 million a year for the next 5 ytears as recapture and yes they wound trade a boatload to avoid that cap hit as would any team I should not have to explain this.!!!!!! Ppl us now listen up everyone it’s also so he can retire as a predator as he is the points leader and all time captain and Franchise player. Now however we won’t get a first that’s for sure but a prospect such as each should do the trick and would be fair payment to avoid the cap hit and to let the warrior retire as a predator. Wow all of that should never have to be explained to anyone who calls themselves a hockey fan

If he retires, NSH is hit with the penalty. It doesn’t matter what team he is on when/if he retires.
