Yeah haha I’m traumatized by it. Especially how everything turned out 1 year later (cap wise). We got f hard by the flat cap. 4.1 for 3 more years is one of the best contracts in the league for Toews.

There were rumors that isles had offers for Leddy but Trotz chose Leddy over Toews because of his age and experience…still on Lou obviously , he’s the GM - you can’t allow your coach to have that much of an influence.

a young top 6 winger locked up long term would be ideal.

Girard is not worth all that, and Colorado would want someone that helps their team now.

There is not trade to be made here.

I don’t agree, I think he is. Under a longterm, fantastic contract to. He’s exactly what we need. Puckmoving dominant player at both ends of the ice. Would instantly make our pp extremely much better than it is.

Girard and his contract are worth significantly more than that package. Hate on him because of his size if you want but kid eats 20 minutes can play left and right personally I think he is better on the right, can qb a power play and gets 30 pts a season. Throw in his long term team friendly contract and why would COL take a late 1st a late 2nd and 2 b prospects. Zero immediate help for a team with cup expectations and getting NOTHING back that helps this year or probably even next year. Easy no.

No one has commented on size, but he is not worth that. This is closer to the package that CBJ got for Seth Jones. I agree that COL does not want futures but as you said he is a 30 point D-Man and even with a great contract he is worth a 1st and 2nd/ B prospect.

COL is also a cup contender and has no reason to trade him without getting a roster player in return, and the Isles do not have anyone on the roster to trade other than Bailey which would not be of much interest to COL.

That is why there is no trade to be made here.

A 30-point d-man is rough considering he had 32 points in 48 games with Colorado last year playing second pp. The difference in the Jones trade would be that Girard’s actually elite for real lol, for years to come with a steal of a contract. Colorado doesn’t necessarily have to get the player to replace Girard with, from us. It gives them a lot of tradeable assets in another deal + capspace. They have Makar, Toews, Byram (break out year?), E. Johnson, Murray, MacDonald. If they want to upgrade their forward depth to balance the roster more, it would be wise to consider moving one of their d for a large package.

something along the lines of a Beauvillier or Sorokin, which NYI would not do. COL, in win-now (like NYI) mode, unlikely to move Girard for a picks/prospects package unless it were a significant overpay that included a high first or bluechip prospect, which I don't think NYI has. Otherwise, they'd probably want similar age/talent/contract at more of a position of need . Have wondered since LA is in the hunt for top LD, if they might be willing to overpay from their bluechip prospect stock, but seems like they are waiting to pry Sanheim out of PHI.

NYI could wait to trade back for Towes in 2023 when COL has to pay Byram's raise.
