No thanks Kylington and Hanifin have the top 4 LD locked up ATM. Lindholm is our 1C ATM. Kaut is the only interesting peice here IMO

Okay I get the sentiment but Toews was 11th in Norris voting last year how is that not an interesting piece

That's awful for Calgary, removing Kaut and Valimaki thats like if Calgary offered Lucic + Andersson for Landeskog.

Nobody knows how good Toews is. I think him and Lindholm have similar value. Top pair D and top line C both in their primes and signed for 3 more years at insanely good value

Yeah it's kinda overwhelming the bias mr barney Stinson catch phrase has towards Calgary players lol idk if it's worth trying to debate them given that

Matt tkachuk = phil Esposito

Elias lindholm = Peter Forsberg

Toews is good, hence me including a top pair d as well, Compher sucks though.

Lindholm is way more valuable than Toews though

Toews > Andersson
Compher > Lucic

I really don't think that's a comparable deal

Devon Toews is ridiculously underrated. Watching him against the sharks on Saturday he looked Norris capable. I think he's more valuable than Lindholm.

What has Toews done to put him over Andersson?

You also forgot Lindholm > Landeskog

Andersson is good but Toews is just better in pretty much every way tbh. Better offense with less PP time and less offensive deployment, better possession numbers, better special teams, etc

True, Lindholm > Landeskog

I think the main value difference here is that you compared Compher to Lucic because you think both are cap dumps. Compher underperformed last year but has bounced back this year and has 9 points in 11 games + 1 period and has an AAV 2.5M less than Lucic's. I wouldnt call Compher a cap dump at all while Lucic clearly is

The problem with your Lucic/ Compher comparison is you are making it out like Lucic is a negative value player, he has 7 points on the season so far and 4 goals playing a depth enforcer role. Both players are overpaid, one a bit more than the other, but that also makes up for the pay gap in Landeskog and Lindholm.

Toews is no question a very good top 4 defenseman, but he is not head and shoulders better than Andersson, they are about the same player, with RA being more offensively gifted

Come on... You arent really saying that Lucic has positive value right?

How is Andersson more gifted offensively but only produced 0.375P/GP with PP1 time while Toews produced 0.585P/GP with PP2 time? Andersson is good but imo Toews is so well rounded I just cant think of anything that Andersson is better at.

Lucic's contract sucks but on the ice he is a positive value player, as in he is by no means a liability and does give the team chances to win. For example since coming to Calgary he's had a pretty solid GAR and WAR in both seasons, and currently sits above replacement level (baring it still being early in the season). He is also a locker room leader and a well liked guy overall by the team. Being on a bad contract does not always mean you are a detriment to the team. If he was a free agent this most recent summer he could have probably earned somewhere between 1.5-2.5M on the market.

Where are you getting your numbers here for Toews and Andersson? Andersson's PP1 time has mostly been this season and about 50% of last year, he has a 0.533ppg after 15 games right now. Last year him, Gio, and Hanifin all split time on the man advantage as Calgary spun their tires most of the season. Unlike Andersson, Toews has also never played for a team that was struggling, his first year in the league was when Trotz took over the Islanders and then was moved to Colorado (another juggernaut).
Here is an example of how Andersson has done so far this season:

He can be a positive impact player on the ice and still be a negative trade value player because of his contract. I think that applies in this case

I was just looking at PP TOI for last year (I took it from hockey-reference but its the same data everywhere). Andersson had 2:44 PP TOI/GP while Toews had 1:43 PP TOI/GP. Thats 59% more PP time per game than Toews and he still produced significantly less.

Andersson's had a good start and seems to be producing more on the PP so far, but its still kind of early to draw conclusions after 15 games. Im not saying Andersson is bad or anything, I just think very highly of Toews (imo top 20 D in the league) and I think theres a pretty sizeable gap between him and Andersson

I dont pay for evolving hockey or Jfresh or anything so these arent completely up to date, just the most recent one I could find posted on twitter. Toews was pretty close to the top in GAR among D when that tweet was made and is in the 98th percentile in WAR

Hes only played 3 games this year (with 1.00 P/GP so far smile ) but I bet he will make his way back up that GAR list quite quickly again this year
