Trade deadlineNext year

Created by: Matbubble_77
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 19, 2021
Published: Nov. 20, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Ok so everyone knows Montreal should consider just rebuilding around the young guys coming up soon (Guhle, Norlinder, etc.) or already up (Suzuki, Caufield, Romanov). This season is pretty much already down the drain and it would lead to Timmins, Bergevin and Ducharme being fired. The next gm then start sending pieces away for picks to let space for the young players. Some of the trades for picks might not be fair or logic but its to show that mtl selling would be a good idea. Last thing, I considered mtl would finish at the bottom of the league and would draft Joakim Kemell.

Oilers arent giving up their first round pick for one of the deepest drafts in a very long time. We are already scarce on picks.

Yeah they might hold on to him. I just wanted to trade Chiarot to a playoff/cup contender in exchange of a first since Friedman said he could fetch that.

Winnipeg is not accruing cap space this year, so there is no room for Perreault. I suspect if the Jets had cap flexibility (trading a contract or a player going on to LTIR) they would recall Gustafsson to be the 4th line guy and not spend an asset for Perreault. Also a 5th or 6th round pick for Perreault is a more realistic return than a 2nd from whatever team he goes to.

The Oilers want a guy who can suppress shots and goals, so they aren't going to target Chiarot who is a replacement level player and allows more goals and shots relative to his teammates and has his entire career.

He's not worth a 1st.

All the returns Montreal is getting in these deals are extremely optimistic and would need a panicking GM on the other side for every deal. So, extremely unlikely.

If you retain 50% on chiarot and take back a cap dump oilers maybe consider.

Totally agree hes not worth a 1st. I just think theres a team somewhere who will overpay badly for him.

I agree, I just thought Winnipeg would like to have him back since he was a solid bottom 6 player for them. A second prob was a stretch but I could see him getting a 3rd or 4th.

Yeah and thats what happens a lot at the trade deadline. But I agree those returns are optimistic. But when you see guys like Savard fetching a 1st + another asset you never know.

That's possible, but it's unlikely to be the Oilers. Ken Holland has already stated that he won't trade the first for a pure rental, it has to be someone with term.

Caps aren't paying that much and don't have a space in the starting lineup for Lehkonen, unless they choose to bench two of Sheary, McMichael, and Sprong.
