Why would MTL do that trade? We can just put them on LTIR. Plus we aren't giving up our first round pick, we are getting Shane.

...do you know how LTIR works? It doesn't go into the cap hit, and the team's insurance doles out the paychecks. This is just Montreal spending multiple first rounders to give them less cap space lol

Price is absolutely going to play again, so this trade would be Horrible for Montreal. Now with Weber that might be a diff story, His contract has multiple years on it, and he will heal from his injuries. The League and NHLPA are going to start fighting over this as part of the next CBA deal and Weber will not be allowed to sit in LTIR for the remainder of his contract. Phoenix wouldn't be on the hook for much cap recapture when he would be forced to retire then. So might be a good move for the Coyotes.

For Ottawa, this is the type of deal they need to make to fill out the roster. He has had some down years but for only a second and fresh start playing Stutzle on either RW or LW and the prospects ottawa has coming could be just what he needs to get him back to +20 goal a season player and then the Contact in today's climate really isn't bad.

If for some reason Weber can't remain on LTIR, his contract might be a good pick up for a team looking to stick to the floor. $24M cap hit over 4 years, but only $6M salary owed.
