Next Year Big Change with Trading Schmidt and Harkins for Myers

Created by: FuelYourJets
Team: 2022-23 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 2, 2022
Published: Jan. 4, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trade Schmidt to Canucks for a revitalized redemption campaign, hopefully everyone benefits. Harkins also has family from Vancouver, would get a new good jump start in his career starting next year, and would get more of an opportunity going forward. Both Harkins and Schmidt are very skilled and good hockey players that would help the Canucks moving forward.
After hopefully a deep successful playoffs, Jets could trade off Harkins and Schmidt for Myers and a better pick(3rd). Get a big Right Handed man for the Right Side, still very capable top 4RD, someone familiar with the Jets Veterans. Also have the lineup locked up for the next few years, before the future Jets are ready to take the mantle.

You guys don't need to add more insult to injury, as much as I like you guys aren't that high on this trade

It's not terrible, but you might need to entice the Canucks a bit more than you have here to get them to even consider this

Well, if he WERE to return, it certainly wouldn't be the same as it was before with the new front office and new coaching staff

I don’t get why people want to move Schmidt. He’s been solid for the jets. Don’t need to bring back Myers on that monster contract. ITs time to move on from the 17-18 jets.

That would be a horrible trade for Winnipeg. Moving a good defenseman with a good contact for a terrible defenseman with a bad contract.

I can see the Jets possibly making some changes, but trading good players for bad players is something Winnipeg should avoid.

If the Jets wanted Myers, they wouldn’t have let him walk… no thanks.
Yes, I’d trade Schmidt, both to upgrade our RD and/or to make room for our kids, but definitely not for Myers… and definitely not in a package like this.

The Jets with Tyler Myers on the top pair is not a contending team..

He’s ok, but not what we need… we need better than ok and we need right handers

Myers is not the answer. We can’t pretend like we can just bring back players and expect the same result. Myers has declined, and that contract is a lot. I’d rather look at making a serious move for an RD. A hockey trade, time to pony up and spend to win. Maybe Heinola is used as trade bait.

Also Schmidt has been exactly what we need, he’s a puck moving dman that can play PP and PK. He brings offense that we haven’t seen much of on the back end. If Morrissey is in a slump it’s clear the jets lack scoring from the back end.

Agree 1000% about Myers.

Disagree about Schmidt, I don’t think he’s what we need and I wish we’d never traded for him. We need better on our top pairing than a Chevy bandaid.
Though our biggest need is RW, our D is a close second and is holding us back.
Chevy needs to make some big moves to fix what’s needed if he wants a real chance at a cup.
Trade Scheifele, Copp Schmidt, Picks, and if needed Heinola, to upgrade our top 6 RW and our top pairing RD, with right handers, not lefty’s
This team needs a culture change and that started with PoMo and now needs to include Scheifele. (Wheeler also, but not realistic)

I agree in regards to a culture change. Trading scheifele for a top RD makes sense. Add Heinola to get a good one.

Also Copp and Schmidt can be moved for top 6 RE or other pieces to get a top 6 RW.

If Heinola is ready to jump into Schmidt’s spot until we find a RW that works for me. I just think Schmidt has been a great puck moving dman.

Myers is playing some of his best hockey as a Canuck right now, is that still a lower level than how he was back in his Winnipeg days?

He might be at the level he was when he was here, but jets don’t need him. I just don’t like the idea of “trying to get the band back together”. Myers has aged, and the jets need a top pairing RD, not a #4 like Myers is. They already have pionk for that.

For sure, I'm not a fan of the "trying to get the band back together" idea either

Like trust me I loved the 17-18 jets. But Myers has aged and while he is playing well in VAN, it’s just not the right move to acquire an older aging RD on a bigger contract. I just don’t quite understand why some jets fans want to move Schmidt. He was awful in VAN and obviously didn’t have a great relationship with the coach. He’s been solid in Winnipeg, yet people are still unsatisfied with the blue line. Fans always need something to complain about.

Schmidt wasn't terrible in Vancouver actually, but not good enough that was for sure, and he'd be returning to the same market, but playing under a different coach and system, plus different front office, so his past stint with Vancouver either way is kind of a moot point even if this were to happen

Oh for sure would be a totally different scenario for Schmidt. But he’s been great for the Jets so no need to trade him.
