I don't think Edmonton should be adding picks for Khudobin but maybe Dallas should add one, something like Koskinen and a pick for Holtby would make more sense imo.

Can't see Buffalo trading a decent D prospect for Mike Smith.

Khudobin is not a guy that we should go for. He is getting old, and is struggling this season. We need a proven starter, not a goalie that we can hope will play well.

This is so bad haha.

If you think Koskinen is bad, you haven’t seen Khudobin play… he’s not an NHL goalie anymore. And to top it off, he’s got another year on his deal.

This move just makes it even more difficult to upgrade the blue paint next season.

This doesn’t even address the fact that you’re giving up two good picks to make the deal happen.

I wouldn’t do them 1 for 1 because Khudobin is worse and has more term on his deal. Curious to hear your rationale here because aside from the $1M in cap savings this season, this makes the team worse off both this season and the next

thinking more they need kosk contract gone and khodobin has playoff success. buffalo is on their 5th string goalie right now and nobody signed for next year. give us a 5th for him then its just to get rid of that contract as well so we have something to spend this summer. the nurse contract is gonna kill edm so we need to trim the fat somewhere else

The $4.5M is gone next season.

Why do they need the extra $1M is savings they get from downgrading Koskinen to Khudobin? The Oilers aren’t in the rental market and if they are, they’ll use guys like Turris/Ryan/Russell as small cap hits to make a deal work. But even if that’s the case $1M of cap space isn’t going to make or break the season for the Oilers

hes had wayyyyyyy more success in playofffs and in the nhl and still think he can play the game better then kosk.

But Khudobin makes more then Smith does next year so you're not trimming any fat as you put it, you're actually adding to it.

Lifelong Oilers fan here of over 30 years and Oilers fans need to stop selling the farm for goalies who were in their prime 6 seasons earlier. We need someone in their mid 20's who will stay for 5-6 seasons. Holland has tried two off seasons to acquire a goalie in the market and failed and last press conference said he thinks the answer is in the dressing room. Koskinen off the books this off season is 4.5M free. I called in to the 630 CHED post game show a couple of weeks ago and asked about or goaltending situation and they said most likely we start the next season with a Skinner-Smith tandem which I am totally good with. Skinner is cheap and has proven he is NHL ready. Is he full time NHL ready though? Only time will tell but I think he has shown flashes that he is.

He’s 35, turning 36 so hoping he can rebound after a pretty steep drop in success is wishful thinking. I agree he’s obviously had more success, but would you be confident going into next season with a Khudobin-Skinner duo? Overall the extra year is just a risk the Oilers don’t need to take. We need a starter. The last few seasons we have been messing about with all these backup duos and it hasn’t been great.

There is no chance Buffalo trades Laaks for Smith.

Sabres decline imo
We have no need for Smith at this point, he won’t get us back in the playoff race
And we aren’t giving up our only RH defenseman prospect for a guy with no future here

Easy no

Why would Buffalo trade a somewhat valuable asset for a 500 year old goalie on an expiring contract?

Still you could’ve gotten it gone without taking 3.33 back
