The leafs dont want chariot for a 4th let alone all that. If they wanted someone who wouldn't be good enough to make their top 4 they'd keep dermott there

You'd have to pay to unload Weber's contract to Arizona, not the other way around.

Not too mention that could be the Shane Wright pick.

Not it can't. There's conditions on the pick that Arizona got.

The Kulak trade is the only one that the other GM doesn't instantly burst into about 30 min of laughter.

If Hughes doesn’t want to be laughed off the phone on his first day on the job, I suggest he doesn’t call any of these teams

I don't agree with the trade proposed here, but the idea has some merit. Arizona would be buying $8M in financial savings for multiple years. That's worth something if they want to operate below the cap floor.

Does insurance get paid to a player on IR rather than LTIR? I don't think it does and any cap floor argument flies out the window if it doesn't.

It also just doesn't make sense. Montreal is asking Arizona to pay money to one of their players and to be compensated for the pleasure. It doesn't meet even the basic amount of scrutiny. Getting to the cap floor has never been a problem and there's lots of team looking to unload bad cap to teams like Arizona.

It is equally as bad as the Flames trade. The Flames at least get a useful player in return. TO gets a ****ty defenceman for 2 good depth pieces and a 1st.

LTIR still counts against the cap. It only allows you to exceed the cap. Even out of pocket, they would be saving multiple millions as Weber's total payout drops to $1m.
I didn't say they should do it, or even need to do it. I only said the idea has some merit.
As for taking on cap dumps, that is of course an option, but they would be paying the full salary in those cases.
This concept is about allowing them to pocket millions, not simply to meet the cap floor.

Think it over again and you should be able to see why the idea is sound, even if it is unlikely and the trade proposal here is off the mark.

They can't. Recapture penalty only applies to years where the salary paid exceeds the cap hit, and to the team that benefited at that time. All of Weber's remaining years are the opposite.
It's unclear whether there would be a positive effect for Arizona upon Weber's retirement, but the only team that would be negatively impacted would be Nashville.
