Highly Debated Deal

Initial Creation Date: Jan. 20, 2022
Published: Jan. 21, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know Chiarot is not liked by many and a lot of stats point to him not being that good but if you ask the question - would you rather Chiarot or Dermott/Liljegren? The answer is definitely Chiarot because he can eat up more minutes and punish the opposition in those minutes.

Habs decline. Toffoli is without question worth a 1st plus. And chiarot by all reports is also a 1st somehow….
Kerfoot, Ritchie and that propsect are worthless to us. They are not bad players but they do nothing for us for the direction we want to go in

nick ritchie would be a better option than Chariot. the only thing Chariot punishes is the goalie and the fact that he plays a lot is a bad thing.
Also if the leafs are spending 1sts and other decent pieces they are gonna get someone better than toffoli

Yeah, he doesn't fit their soft, first round exit system at all. Agreed.

Ritchie is a cap dump, i believe Kerfoot is suppose to be as well, but he is one of their few playoff style players. Seems counter productive including him.

^this. No debate here.

Also, the conditionnal pick is hilarious. TML cant win a round and you make it conditionnal to a SC final. LOL.

He’s slow and garbage. He’s so overrated bc he’s tough and went to the scf. The leafs need a good puck moving two way dman to play the right side, and chiarot isn’t that.

The "somehow" is because he's the best "playoff type" defenseman "known" to be available, and can handle heavy top 4 minutes in all situations.
Several teams will be interested and his cap hit will be fairly low with retention, driving the price up.

If there were a similar but better player available, that player would be the one drawing the attention and it would lower the odds of him returning a 1st.

Listen, I do think he’ll go for a first. I like chiarot and I think opposing fans don’t really know him and what he brought to this team in the last 2 playoffs. He’s been a beast for us…so I do think it’ll be a 1st

It’s definitely more than what he’s worth but someone will pay you’d have to think

Supply and Demand. His worth is what GMs are willing to pay. Fans value offensive players more these days. Which is why powerhouse Toronto couldn’t possibly upgrade with the likes of Chiarot, but also can’t get into the second round.
