Why LTIR are traded ,,,,it's really a troll post.
Leafs lose the Dallas trade, Leafs severely lose the Columbus trade. Oilers lose the Leafs trade.

More you go down the less sense the moves make.

Everyone declines.

Love how so many people here say things like "Everyone declines" - but nobody ever says WHY!

Leafs take on the LTIRs - the fact half of them are goalies is irrelevant - just coincidence.

How do the Leafs lose the DAL trade? The Leafs add a top 4 RD in Klingberg who has Stanley Cup experience to replace Holl. Engvall is a bottom 6 forward, Kiviranta is too but is cheaper and with term, the Bishop dump cancels out the Ritchie dump - Robertson is the "kicker" for DAL losing out on the Klingberg/Holl and Kiviranta/Engvall swaps and the retention on Klingberg's salary.

How do the Leafs lose the CBJ trade? Laine is the top 6 LW the Leafs are in need of + Domi can play anywhere in the lineup and Korpisalo > Koskinen - The picks are compensation for the salary retentions.

How do the Oilers lose the Mrazek trade? Upgrade their G (Mrazek > Koskinen) and dump 2 dead weight LTIR contracts too - The Leafs do this trade in order to do the CBJ trade as I am SURE Mrazek would have CBJ as one of his 10 teams on his NTC's "no trade list". - The 1st from EDM to TOR is comp for taking on the 2 LTIR contracts and risk with Klefbom and Smith, plus the downgrade TOR takes at G from Mrazek to Koskinen.

Easy decline from the jackets.

Domi half retained, 4th, and 6th = 1st rounder
Korpi half retained = koskinen and 2nd

So essentially you want Laine half retained for kerfoot and a 1st 2 years from now.

Well there’s a couple of reasons, you’re focusing on why Toronto does it and not Dallas.

Dallas doesn’t do this because:

1. For Klingberg the price will be a 1st and a great prospect (Robertson), so you’re a 1st short.

2. Bishop’s dump doesn’t cancel Ritchie’s dump, Bishop is on LTIR and will cost 0 dollars against the cap while Ritchie is 2.5 million against the cap for the next two years and is an AHL caliber player. Bishop has no value while Ritchie has negative value.

3. I do agree that the Engvall-Kiviranta swap is fair.

4. Holl does nothing for us because chances are that he’ll leave through FA, he’ll have minimal value since he’ll only play a couple games before signing with some other team. And even if he does sign, he doesn’t fill in the void of the missing 1st.

The Oilers for sure lose the trade. They're now out their 1st with a Mrazek/Skinner tandem. The Oilers aren't in a position where they need to move the Klefbom contract, they can let it sit on LTIR for one more season. Mrazek and Smith are both injury prone but Mrazek has more cost and term. The Koskinen contract runs it's course this year. Also, Smith is due to return next game (Skinner has been sent back to the minors).

It's mostly because these kind of moves only take into consideration what Toronto needs or wants. But it makes very little sense for the other participants of the exchange.
