Respectfully, Edmonton declines. They don't have the cap space to take Boeser this season, nor to re-sign him.

If we had the cap space to do that though I would do it in a heartbeat that is a good deal for Boeser

Oilers need another star-caliber player for McDavid and Boeser seems like the best fit. If the Oilers can figure out the cap (trade Koskinen and Kassian?) to get him, he would thrive there. 90+ points

I feel like the Panthers will go after a defenseman but will be late to it and be forced to go after him. IDK why its j my gut

I skipped class this morning, but Islanders would accept that, BUT I think Lou would get Garland for less somehow. Maybe a 2nd round pick instead of a 1st

I almost would prefer Miller for the Oilers. Boeser is no doubt an elite shooter, but as mentioned already I just think his next deal is way too rich for the oilers. Miller has another year of control and I think his next deal would be a little more reasonable. He also had the physicality and grit that would welcomed. To me, he’s the perfect fit for McDavids wing.

IMO that value is pretty insane for Boeser. That’s pretty much two 1st and two 2nds for Boeser, with no cap getting shipped out. Obviously when you’re dealing guys making $5M+, you need to be taking money back. Kassian would need to be included.

No chance Isles do that trade. Garland and Bailey score at the same rate, Garland more goals and Bailey more assists. Adding 4 assets (1st rounder, and 3 young forwards) would be a massive overpay.

Bailey's assist are 100% from easy passes in the neutral zone then Barzal does something and helps to score. He doesnt actually contribute anything to the team

Maybe. Bourgault is shaping up to be pretty good though - and then there's another 1st + two 2nds. That's a hefty price to pay...

NHLe for Draft+1
Boeser: 23-28-51
Bourgault: 20-20-40

Boeser's NHLe was 18-20-38 in his draft+2 season, so he took a big step back when no longer playing with Caggiula and Schmaltz.

Don't get me wrong he's a good player (if injury prone). But I don't think it's accurate to say that this is a steal for Edmonton.

It's all moot anyhow as the Oilers can't take on the cap or re-sign him.

Id imagine the Oilers will free up some cap this offseason. Koskinen off the books + Kassian trade? Or one of Keith, Barrie or Ceci (LMFAO)? They also need to sign a bunch of RFAs however but I think that they will actually get their act together... or so I hope

The Koskinen money is already spent. They aren't moving Keith or Ceci (they've been very good for the Oilers most of the season) and if they move Barrie they'll need to sign someone to replace him as there aren't any obvious internal replacements on the farm. Besides signing RFAs they may need to spend more money on goaltending too, depending on Smith's health and how Skinner doing. I simply don't see where they'll come up with $7M+ for Boeser on a long-term deal.

Bailey is signed for 2 more years at a cap hit of $5 million and an actual cost of $7 million. Garland is signed for four years at the same cap hit and $21 million. So Garland is under team control for twice as long but costs three times as much. Moreover, Garland hasn't yet shown any leadership qualities (not that he's had much opportunity), while there's a reason that Bailey wears the "A." Now I'm not close to saying that they're of equivalent value even though their stats are pretty comparable, but what I am saying is that the difference between them isn't two former first-round picks and the Isles' current first-rounder.

Should NY trade Bailey for Garland if possible? Sure. Should NY have to add? Sure. But not that much.

i feel like "two former first round picks" is an overstatement of holmstrom and bellows who don't look like surefire nhlers. the only asset in there i wouldn't want to lose is the pick which is probably going to be top 10.

Well, I think (hope) that the pick is 13 -- 16, but you and I are in basic agreement: the difference between Garland and Bailey isn't a first-round pick, especially of that calibre. I can see Garland and their second (probably in the 9 -- 12 slot) for Bailey and NY's first, but not with those three assets added in, too. And I think that between Bellows, Koivula and Holmstrom, there's a good chance at least one of them becomes a legitimate NHL player.

Always find funny to see people suggest 90+ points if he’s with mcdavid. There is no guarantee a player will succeed in that role we watched nuge a former 1st overall spend an entire season next to mcdavid and produced next to nothing while see a guy like kass thrive in the role. I’d pass on Boeser simply because resigning him is a huge gamble against the cap money can be spent in more pressing areas.
