I’d probably do this as a habs fan. The Gallagher/Vlasic contracts are almost the same. Vlasic is one year less for slightly more per year. The next few years we won’t be a cap team so the extra 1M in years 1-3 probably won’t matter that much and so if we can shave a year off in year 6 when it will matter more for us, I’m all for it. Our last defence is going to be very young soon with Romanov, Mailloux, Guhle and Harris. Would be good to have Vlasic back there even if his play is no where near what it was.Pick up a 1st round in the process too is nice.

Habs reject. Gallagher is NOT a cap dump, unlike vlasic. Gally will fetch a 1st + B prospect. So this deal doesn't even start because we don't want vlasic unless you pay us a 1st for him, and gally would cost Merkley + 2nd

Awesome trade idea. I love it and think it's fair for both sides. I'd be fine with Toffoli too, and though I like Gallagher better, I'd prefer Toffoli just because of the shorter contract and cap hit.

As a fellow habs fan, I think you should rethink habs getting a 1st plus for Gallagher. Unless there is significant retention

See these conflicting opinions is why the trade works. Gallagher isn’t a cap dump. He’s a significant player that will bring a physical presence that’s missing from the top 6. You’re looking at future top 6 of:
Meier - Hertl - Dahlen
Eklund - Couture - Gallagher

Gallagher is not that good - his contract could look as bad as if not worse than Vlasic's in a couple years time and he has a full NMC and NTC. But even if there was some value there the 1st should be totally off limits.

Both contracts are terrible and both players are on a steady decline.

I dont think the 1st is enough for the habs to accept this. Vlasic is straight up the worst contract in the league. Im confident the Habs could trade Gally for a package that involves a 1st and less cap coming back to the Habs which would be better off than taking Vlasic.
