Samsonov possible trades

Description
Rumours out of Montreal that they've got interested in Samsonov.

I think the narrative is that Samsonov's fallen out of favour in WSH, but Washington still see's him as a valuable asset (rightfully so).

2 WSH scouts in the building for tonight's games.

Lets look at some possible deals.

Anderson deal is for a huge return because the team doesn't want to move him. Will take an overpayment to lure him out of MTL.

Forget about retaining on anyone beyond next season.
We should be using all 3 slots this deadline to maximize returns and then we'll have to see if we are going to retain on Petry before knowing how many slots we need next trade deadline.
Drouin is the only one with term I'd consider retention on prior to the off season. Only if it's obviously worth it.

Caps would definitely not have any interest in Hoffman. He's a possession nightmare and terrible defensively. So IF these rumors are true then Caps wouldn't want Hoffman back. Only players that I could see Caps interested in are Gallgher or Lehkonen. Don't think MTL would move Gallagher so Lehkonen makes the most sense. But as much as I like Lehkonen, I'd rather keep Sammy. Dude has a very high ceiling and trading him now would be a bad idea. He'll just blow up with his next team.

Only players I can see Caps interested in are Lehkonen, Dvorak, and Gallagher. Don't think MTL would move Gallagher. Dvorak is interesting but his possession stats are wonky. Lehkonen is great play driver but lacks skill it seems. Anderson is exactly what the Caps look for: big speedy dudes, but I know his possession stats are not great either.

Samsonov is worth a 2nd, because that's what every RFAs goalies are worth (except Cory Schneider for a 1st, one of the worst trade ever).

Sooooo, your trades make no sense at all.

All bad. We’re not trading our best goalie and we’re clearly struggling. What are those players gonna do for us, Play goalie? Lmao

These are all horrible for DC, and in no way has Samsonov fallen out of favor in DC. Plays far better than the stats say, and had he truly fallen out he would have been listed as one of the Capitals trade pieces with Kempny and our 1st round pick instead of Vanecek. Neither of them should be dealt, but if Washington can only keep one, it should and will be Samsonov.
