Habs hang up and laugh at you. In no way is Chychrun worth Bedard / Michkov / Fantilli and other assets

"Arizona is not going to get better offers than this"

If that's true...they'll probably just keep Chychrun.

Chychrun doesn't fit Montreal's needs or window. Not worth pursuing.

if the 1st is unprotected then the yotes might consider this. otherwise this is a pretty bad deal for them since most of the trades value would be tied into that pick being top 5.

MTL is not giving up their 2023 1st which is going to be a lottery pick in the Bedard/Michkov draft.

You’re not paying attention to what Arizona is trying to do.

Chychrun is 23. You have a bizarre handle on age/time.

The Yotes are building a war chest of draft picks ahead of selling the team. They will take the best offer. I don’t see anyone beating this.

Gathering load of futures I guess? This is not it. It only works if that MTL pick is guaranteed to be like top3 one, otherwise the offer sucks compared to their asking price.

Yeah, they're going to move him for actual prospects, not lottery chances.

Recent history dictates otherwise. Whoever buys this team isn’t going to want to be saddled with draft picks that were chosen by Arizona staff (or the prospects that they traded for). They’re going to want to select their own guys.

To be fair when a Chychrun caliber player is made available to the market (which is rare), the haul for them is usually a mixture of prospects and picks, potentially cap dumps as well to make the money work. You have the cap dump (Petry) and the picks...now it's lacking the prospects.

Petry might bring them some value after trading him further, but as an asset he does them nothing. They're not taking him because they want him, they'd be taking him because of circumstance.

I think ARI would just leave that hot mess for Habs to deal with and take that haul of prospects and picks.

Re-read previous comment. New ownership, wherever they end up, will want to select their own guys based on whatever philosophy they’re trying to build. This is not a typical circumstance. Look at what Arizona has been doing. Not other teams.

I don’t see a team out there offering 3 firsts.

I agree with you that Arizona might prefer to flip Petry right now as part of a three way trade. There are ways to get this done.

He's going to be UFA before then.
Keep the assets and pursue him in free agency if he's a fit at that time. Spending big on a LHD doesn't make sense when we should be using those spots to develop our own players.

I do. Otherwise I wouldn't move the guy.

New owners might want to build a team of their own liking, but they also need assets to build that new team around. Keller is going to stay, he's going to be a centerpiece of that new roster. I don't see why they wouldn't keep Chychrun either unless they get a crazy overpay. They are in no rush to move him after all.

why is Arizona doing Montreals dirty work getting assets for Petry.
This is an easy decline by the Yotes as well as an easy decline by Petry and his trade protection. Hes not waiving to sit and wait for Arizona to flip him

He’s going to be UFA around 27 , that’s still good tho for a longterm contract

Its kinda true, he has 3 years left on his contract and is a UFA. IS Montreal going to be competitive in 3 years that are left on his contract. risking him walking?

If Montreal gets one of Wright or Savoie and one of Bedard or Michkov plus they have some decent players that will stay, they won’t be a bad team
