2 Firsts,a second,A young top 9 forward with top 6 potential and a young puck moving d-man, a young forward who's elite at goal scoring with top 9 potential is a kings ransom but totally worth it on the oilers end as girard is arguably one of the most valuable assets in the league

The destination doesn't matter but if those guys can pull in that kind of return than a 2nd+a B+ prospect is not a reach at all for barrie (WANNA BE VERY CLEAR THE CANUCKS ARE NOT THE DESTINATION JUST AN EXAMPLE OF A RETURN)

@coga16 thoughts on this girard trade? (It's more quantity over quality but it holds lot's of things the avs could flip)

That Colorado trade is so bad for the Oilers.

Any trade that involves G would require a significant asset coming back (e.g., Broberg +) or a player of equivalent quality. A trade like the one you've proposed here only makes sense if the Avs are rebuilding, which they most definitely are not. Pretty easy decline in my book.

It's 100 percent a risk and I knew that while making it and honestly I don't blame u for thinking it's the worst trade ever b u t

Girard is a top ten d-man in the league on a team-friendly deal long term which is perfect for the oilers.

If edmonton holds onto their assets for years to come and wastes mcdavids and drais primes with a lackluster d-core then what.

You still keep holloway and jesse you throw away some picks in drafts that won't matter cause the players won't match up with mcdavid or drai and yamamoto is a loss that can be replaced.

I am very determined on making this work so how about a 3 team deal that involves a rebuilding team getting these assets and then sending a star player to the avs

I thought it was they get 3.4 million in extra cap to use if he retires?

The issue with that is why wouldn't edmonton just do that trade for chychrun in the first place?

I would 100x rather have Girard thought cause his term is longer so what about a three team trade that includes Girard going to edmonton, debrincat and 25% of assets from edmonton going to the avs, and 75% of the assets going to the hawks

oh yeah I mean even if he DIDNT retire I bet they buy him out to clear space. So either way hes gone next year. His contract only is 1.5 mil in salary so he might just walk away.

Haha you're the one trying to trade for G, I'm just throwing out other ideas that the Avs might go for assuming Byram establishes himself. Term and team-friendly deal makes G incredibly valuable. Debrincat's great, but he'd need a raise the same season that Mackinnon will get his dump truck full of cash. Couldn't see Joe going for that.

Players that make sense on paper but not in reality: Buchnevich, Reinhart, Hall (lol), Beauvillier, Hertl (could be interesting), etc.

That makes COL worse in the short term which means no. COL would want a young top 6 forward locked up at a similar number as a starting point.

A three team trade is probably about the only way you could do it but it does give you room to get more creative.

Girard is a great player but he's not what the Oilers need. The biggest issue with the oilers D is that they are too soft and play a finesse game. They need a cheap, meat and potatoes guy in the #4 slot who can punish and clear the net.
