Going after Pronmans list of available prospects

Created by: NHLfan10506
Team: 2021-22 New Jersey Devils
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 22, 2022
Published: Feb. 22, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Corey Pronman of The Athletic wrote a piece suggesting eight prospects that could move at this year's deadline. I tried making an offer for each of them. In no particular order below.
Trades
1.
NJD
  1. Helleson, Drew [Reserve List]
COL
  1. Zacha, Pavel
Additional Details:
Would this be fair as Giroux back-up option?
2.
NYR
  1. Zetterlund, Fabian
Additional Details:
As much as instinct said to send Walsh here to reunite with Fox, I don't think NJD does that.
3.
MIN
  1. Boqvist, Jesper
Additional Details:
Lambos seems to me to be least likely of these guys to move, but if they needed a center...
4.
FLA
  1. Kuokkanen, Janne
Additional Details:
An inexpensive winger and cap space? Dunno...not sure if there is a fit here.
5.
BOS
Boqvist, I would guess. Both kinda suck as tweeners. Both 2nd rounders from 2017.
    6.
    NYR
    1. White, Colton
    Additional Details:
'bout as far as I'd go here. Similar point production in AHL, NHL.
    7.
    CAR
    1. 2022 3rd round pick (NJD)
    Additional Details:
Siegenthaler type deal, but for forward. Couldn't think of a fitting prospect for prospect type move. Foote, Clarke, Thompson were all same draft year, but have produced more up until this point.
    8.
    TOR
    1. Wood, Miles
    Additional Details:
Amirov is probably the hardest one to figure out since he has the most talent overall from this group, but isn't playing regularly now. Also, it is believed that Devils liked him in his draft year (following Amirov closely was what ultimately let to the Mukhamadullin selection). So I assume Fitzgerald still likes him. Leafs are always asking us for d-men. But I don't think we'd move any from NHL roster other than Subban. Wood might be the choice here, especially if he could return for this year's playoffs and not count against their cap (far from a guarantee....he had surgery 4 months ago, with 6-month recovery period...playoffs are 2+ months from now).

I can't see us moving Lambos unless it's for a legitimate top line center. Boqvist is not that

    I don't think Lambos returns our 1C, 2C, or 3C...our 4C wouldn't be enough...so you got stuck with 5C. Sorry.

Pronman is off his rocker, and has clearly disliked Wild prospects of late... for whatever reason.

Lambos isn't available and wouldn't be the prospect we'd move. O'Rourke, Hunt, or Peart are the only defensive prospects that would be available. The only top prospect that could be on the table is Beckman.

Regarding the Colorado trade, I can't see Sakic moving a good NHL-ready RHD prospect for anything other than a legit top 6 forward. Zacha ain't it.

Wild aren't moving lambos who was selected 1st round pick in this draft for a lesser prospect. Pronman is literally making crap u0

I'm trying to wrap my head around the Studs for Boqvist swap. Did Boqvist request a trade or something bc in my mind Boqvist has more value than him at this point in time

If the Bruins trade Studnicka, it should be in a trade for a better player that can help now, not 1v1. Boqvist wouldn't really change much for Boston.

The Rangers may move Lundkvist but it would be for immediate NHL talent, not a minor leaguer who *may* have NHL upside. They especially wouldn't be trying to move him in the division without a large return.

All of these guys are "available" because the teams they play for are contenders and would like to package them in a bigger trade. I doubt anyone moves in a 1 for 1 trade.

lol typical delusional devils fan. Why would the rangers trade two of their best prospects for nobodies? Especially to a division rival

I like all those guys. We just don't have many trade assets on the table as all our best guys are young and keepers.

I think Zacha for Helleson would look fair in my view.
Zacha plays both center and wing and his scoring output is a lot better on wing.
Since beginning of last year, he is 0.71ppg as winger, 0.49ppg as center. (so production-wise, between Burakovsky & Donskoi at wing, close to Newhook at C)

No, I just wanted to come up with something for each guy on list (stuck with one-for-ones since its simpler).
Boqvist was the closest match to Studnicka I could come up with.

Boqvist hasn't requested a trade or anything, but he is blocked in NJ.

In his first year, John Hynes kind of screwed him by trying to make him a 4th line grinder. Total mismatch. And he tended to float. He had proven all he needed to in SHL, AHL, so he ended up spending way too much time as healthy scratch.

Now...Hughes, Hischier, Mercer probably stay ahead of him on depth chart. And McLeod does 4C things he cannot. So Boqvist has been our 5C this season and not getting the playing time that he should be getting. He is very fast, plays with a ton of skill....and I have said for past year+ that he is without a doubt the best buy low guy on Devils.

Still waiver-exempt, so we'll probably keep him for now.

Maybe in a 1-for-1, but not a prospect for prospect. Yes, I agree.
(Tippett is the guy on Panthers that Devils should be asking about anyway)

    Haha, OK, Ranger fan.

Zetterlund came to camp with an extra 20 lbs packed on and has put up 37 points in 40 games this year. Plays all three forward spots, both special teams, and has become one of the advanced stats darlings of the AHL.

Colton White is indeed a nobody. But this was my way of saying we would not have interest in Kravtsov.

    Again:
    - Zacha's analytics are poor, especially defensively at 5v5.
    - He's not a center.
    - Avs need a top 6 forward not a 3rd liner, especially if a RHD prospect is involved.
    - RHD's are highly prized, which is why you want Helleson.

    Needless to say, pass.

Zacha's defensive game has been sub-optimal at center. Not terrible, not great. He still earns PK time.
Zacha is both center and winger (based on starts over last two years 46-of-97 games were at center)
Tatar, Johnsson are our only other forwards probably available

As for Helleson, I think him because I know him. I follow the US program and NCAA hockey. And he was part of the Hughes cohort.
I am not big on R/L...generally believe its one of the more overrated factors (Devils won their first cup with 6 LHD, the other two with 5).

Zacha only played C because NJ had no one else. As soon as Mercer arrived they shunted Zacha to the wing for good.

You might think that it's overrated but coaches (certainly Jared Bednar) speak about their preference for LHS/RHS balance. The lack of a RHS on the PK for the Avs hurt them in the Dallas series two years ago in particular, as they struggled to clear the puck on the right side and Dallas chewed up the Avs PK as a result.

Whatever the case I'm just giving you my opinion on the trade, feel free to keep pursuing the idea but I doubt it works in reality for the reasons I mentioned.

I always appreciate the feedback, Richard.

Zacha switched to wing last year under Lindy Ruff. But some injuries forced him back into that role from time to time since.

So Avs need a RHD who can play PK and can successfully exit d-zone? That would be Severson for us. But I don’t think he is available. Subban can get the puck out of d-zone just as well, but his starts are less likely to end in o-zone entry (in short, he ices the puck too much).

Zub from Ottawa, Roy from LAK, maybe even Benning from Nashville are ones I’d recommend looking at.

Zub and Roy would be nice fits, but I doubt either team is looking to sell, and they'd likely be more expensive than what Colorado will be wanting to do. Thanks for the suggestions though smile
