last few games Koski has played unreal any takers on Smith

Created by: FullSend
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 26, 2022
Published: Feb. 26, 2022

Description
Koskinen is currently trying to finish off a game against the panthers with 40+ saves, likely pushing 50. Literally making highlight reel saves out there. BEEN saying he's not a cap dump, but he's definitley not worth his contact. We can afford to keep him though and he's proving to be a good 1B as long as long as he's not being overplayed. That being said, any takers on Mike Smith??

I think the best case scenario is Smith gets sent to the AHL or retires. Or he's the salary cap piece going back to the Islanders in a trade for Varlamov.

I hate my fanbase. Koskinen sucks! Lets be real

Wtf was he even doing raising his arm when his helmet was attached. Did he swallow a bug on the 3rd goal?!

Buddy is 5-0-1 in his last 6, he’s solid for now. We do need a goalie to take the workload off him and he’s fine. There’s no irrationality here, it’s obvious Smith is the odd man out and we can afford to keep Koskinen

There is no reality where Koskinen is on this club next season. Is this your first season watching the Oilers?

Its Skinner and whomever they sign in the off season if they can dump Mike Smith

Calm down, buddy is good enough to be a 1b option and if we trade Smith, we can afford to keep him. He’s not the best, but that’s the cards that have been dealt and we just have to make do. Just glad he’s been playing solid lately. It’s evident we need a goalie. Just saying we don’t need to trade Koskinen.

You cant be this delusional to think they'll bring back Koskinen with Mike Smith still on the books

BUDDY READ. We have him for one season and he’s gone (good riddens). Point being made: He’s just playing solid this season and we don’t have to trade him. We should try to find a way to unload Smith and have a rotation of Skinner, Koski, goalie we traded for JUST FOR THIS SEASON. This is irritating me, you’re the one acting a tad bit delusional with the made up narratives.

Unfortunately for smith think the smartest choice at this stage is giving him a sit down and tell him he’s gotta go to Bakersfield for a conditioning stint. It’s mid season very clear he’s not in mid season form team isn’t in position nor can afford to keep giving starts. As poor as smith has been shouldn’t just forget how good he can be if gets up to speed. Couple weeks in Bakersfield can change a lot. Healthy up to speed smith is still our best option for playoffs only way to get that is a very humbling talk with smith. Keep in mind he’s jumping in mid season without playing hardly at all that’s really tough so we should try to be a little understanding.

Maybe I should’ve specified keeping him for just this season sorry. But the whole reasoning is everyone’s talking about Koski being the one they should trade this season and tbh it should be Smith

I can see a scenario kosk stays smith retires. Every time kosk has struggled is overworked because smith misses time and his injuries haven’t been short term it’s putting alot on kosk. If smith decides to hang up the skates skinner kosk tandem I’d be very fine with next year far less worried about overworking kosk splitting the net with someone less likely to miss large chunks of time.

I was curious if he got trade protection so checked out his contract, his deal is slightly more back loaded, why did he do that? Mike smith probably had next to no options to get that deal from anyone else. Holland negotiated against himself?

Koski is a perfectly fine backup goalie, his biggest downfall is the ridiculous contract Chia handed him, and the fact that they dont have a true #1 starter- And none of that is his fault.
