Is this a joke? Zibanejad is the only one for New York that carries any real money and term. McDavid+Barrie combined carries a $17,000,000 cap hit. The Rangers can't afford McDavid and Barrie without sending out more expensive contracts. Plus with Fox/Trouba/Lundkvist/Schneider New York doesn't need Barrie.

I know right, And even then that doesn't get McDavid not even close. Zibanejad isn't waiving and it's not like Lafreniere is lighting it up or anything.

They knew they couldn't resign him due to financial troubles. Of course they trade him. I'd rather have a NHL Franchise and no Gretzky than no Franchise and no Gretzky

This is a deal done now so it’s not an issue cap wise for this season. Off-season NYR would need to move Barrie and it’s done. Not that this deal is happening

I think they'll trade him in 4 years at deadline cause he won't resign for oilers, but he's not gonna ask for trade he's getting paid a decent amount to lose!

It's partially his fault that they're not winning he should have taken less money
